Lulu Tøpholm’s two-year-old Killian produced a dominant display on Friday evening in the big German sales race, the BBAG Auktionsrennen over 1,400 metres in Cologne. The Galileo Gold colt scored in commanding fashion by five lengths in the hands of Thore Hammer-Hansen, picking up a first prize of €25,000.
Killian is trained at Trongården near Klampenborg by Veronika Jandová and was back in Germany for the first time since his debut on 6 June, when he came home third over 1,000 metres at Baden-Baden.
Killian has since won the 2-års Grand Prix on Jutland Derby Day at Aarhus, and most recently he filled second behind Elkær Stutteri’s unbeaten Norsk Kriterium winner Romanov (Starspangledbanner) in the Goffs Futurity Stakes on Klampenborg’s Derby day.
Killian has now won two of the first four starts of his career in Lulu Tøpholm’s colours. He was bought for just €6,500 at last year’s Jährlings-Auktion in Baden-Baden and is the second foal out of the French winner Nadira (Le Havre).
The grandam Notting Hill (Jules) won four times in Brazil and the United States, including at both Group 2 and Group 3 level, while she also finished third in a Grade 1 handicap at Del Mar.
As a broodmare, Notting Hill has produced, in addition to Nadira, the Brazilian Group 2 winner and Group 1-placed Notting Tomorrow (Aragorn), who in turn has become the dam of the Brazilian champion and dual Group 1 winner Jackson Pollock, as well as another Group 1 winner in Ladario.
