Stark Fyensløbet: Tina Mortensen runs three of the nine on her home track

When Tina Mortensen moved her stable from Aalborg to Odense after last season, Fyens Væddeløbsbane became her home track. On Saturday she saddles three of the nine runners in the day’s feature, the Stark Fyensløbet.

The Patriot (Primatico) and Silver Wings (Appel Au Maitre) both carry 63 kilos over the 2,300 metres, the third leg of the Grand Slam Serien for the Class 2 horses.

The first prize is DKK 60,000 of the race’s total DKK 120,000. Evelina Rönnlund rides Peter Johansen’s The Patriot, while Diego Pedroza is aboard Lokalebasen.dk A/S’ Silver Wings. Mortensen’s third runner is Sussi Hald’s Call Me Al (Al Shemali), ridden at 58 kilos by Melissa Vesterholm.

Silver Wings and Call Me Al both come off a big evening at Aarhus on 22 August, where Tina Mortensen won three of her four races with Diego Pedroza in the saddle every single time.

Silver Wings defied 65 kilos there and crossed the line a good four lengths clear in the Ritmester Frigaards Mindeløb, while Call Me Al took Lena Frandsens 90 års Fødselsdagsløb by a short head.

The opposition is headed by Lea Olsen’s two runners. Giovanni Torkdahl (Lope De Vega) lines up at 62 kilos with Carlos Lopez, while the defending Fyensløbet winner Garlic (Outstrip) carries 59 kilos under Mikkel Mortensen.

Those two were third and first respectively in the Spar Nord Arena Champion Stakes at Aalborg on 8 August, where Garlic won by a neck — and where The Patriot finished fourth. And in last year’s running of the Fyensløbet, Garlic also beat Giovanni Torkdahl.

The field is completed by Rikke Rohbach Bonde’s former Oaks winner Lady Macallan (Al Shemali), Kaj Sørensen’s Makaveli (Sands Of Mali), Sandie Kjær’s Sea The Sunrise (Juniper Tree) and Ann-Charlotte K. Wedsgaard’s Bizou (Zoustar), who carries the race’s lowest weight of 53 kilos.

The day holds two more races worth DKK 60,000.

In the Restaurant Bondestuen presents Odense Milen over 1,650 metres, Cloudy Sky (Cloth Of Stars) turns out again after finishing second to Garlic in the Champion Stakes, and Ole Torkdahl has both Marsk Torkdahl (Make Believe) and Samson Torkdahl (Kodi Bear) in the same race.

The third leg of the Elkær Stutteri Fuldblods Fonds 3-årsserie is run as the Fyens 3-års Cup, where Vittoria (Gale Force Ten) is among the seven runners, and the Elkær Stutteri Fuldblods Fonds Ærespræmieløb over 1,800 metres draws nine horses.

In the Højgaard Hestehospital Ærespræmie over 2,300 metres, Zavannah (Havana Gold) meets older horses for the first time, after getting off the mark as recently as last Saturday on Klampenborg’s Ladies’ Day.

The day closes with the HM Dronning Ingrids Mindeløb, which is ridden by amateur riders and apprentices.

First off is at 13.00. The full racecard is below.
