Season finale in Odense: Lensbaron Berners Ærespræmie opens the day; three good chances for Sara

Three races and DKK 88,000 close the gallop season on Funen, and Tina Mortensen has four of the 18 runners

Fyens Væddeløbsbane closes the gallop season on Sunday with three races and DKK 88,000 in prize money. The Lensbaron Berners Ærespræmie for amateur riders and apprentices opens the card at 12.25, and Sara Slot has the mount in all three races.

Sara Slot swapped her professional jockey’s licence for an amateur one this year, and in the Lensbaron Berners Ærespræmie she rides her own Nevertheless (Reliable Man), whom she both trains and owns together with her mother, Bente Slot.

The gelding won on his latest start at Odense itself, on 12 September.

Sara’s two other rides are for Tina Mortensen, who with four of the 18 runners has the strongest hand of the day.

Alakay and Royal Dane again

Sandie Kjær’s Alakay and Royal Dane meet in the Class 3 Handicap. Both are owned by L.T. Racing, who lead the owners’ list, and both are by Wilshire Boulevard.

They were first and second in the Odense Milen on 12 September, where Royal Dane beat Alakay, and at Aarhus on 27 September they swapped places: Alakay won, while Royal Dane was third — with Tina Mortensen’s Lexington Avenue between them.

All three line up again on Sunday – and Lexington Avenue is ridden by Sara Slot.

Alakay, incidentally, has a fond memory of this very occasion. He was the last winner of the year at Odense, when he took the closing race on 12 October 2025.

Maziyah still unbeaten?

In the Class 4 Handicap, Tina Mortensen’s three-year-old Maziyah (Giant Sandman) sets out to keep her record clean.

She has won both her starts — the Fyns Galopklub Maidenløb at Odense on 12 September and a class 4 handicap at Aarhus on 27 September, the latter also with Sara Slot.

At Aarhus she beat Camar and GinTonik. The latter meets Maziyah again, while Camar runs in the Lensbaron Berners Ærespræmie.

The meeting is a combined card, and the three gallop races are run at 12.25, 12.50 and 13.15.
