The respected website www.thoroughbredracing.com published its weekly world rankings a couple of days ago, and the week’s biggest climber by some distance is “our own” Bent Olsen-trained Great Wish.

It is of course the victory in the Prix de Meautry (Gr.3) at Deauville that accounts for the enormous leap by the son of Night Of Thunder, from number 1,778 to number 224.
The World Ranking covers horses over all distances, but among sprinters alone Great Wish must be close to the European elite.
Great Wish has been entered for the British Champions Sprint Stakes (Gr.1) at Ascot on 17 October, where a large part of Europe’s best sprinters will contest a first prize of £283,550 over 1,200 metres.
The race is a kind of “season finale” for the elite, and the winner of Saturday’s Betfair Sprint Cup (Gr.1), Almeraq (Dark Angel), and the Commonwealth Cup (Gr.1) winner Venetian Sun (Starman) have been entered as well.
Could it become one of the greatest moments ever for Danish racing?
