Double for Jacob Kvisla and Annika Sjökvist; Humble Vibes won on debut

Jacob Kvisla and Annika Sjökvist shared the two biggest handicap wins of the day between them as Bro Park staged six races at midday on Wednesday. First the three-year-old Golden Grace took the richest contest and a first prize of SEK 50,000, and later Campari Shakerato followed up over 2,100 metres.

Golden Grace (Jimmy Mack) carried the day’s top weight of 65 kilos in the Class 4 handicap over 1,200 metres on dirt and solved the task by making all the running. She won in dominant fashion by five lengths from the Caroline Malmborg-trained Dharwin (Moohaajim), who in turn was a length ahead of Crystal Clear (Jimmy Mack) and three-quarters of a length ahead of Daybreezer (Jimmy Mack).

Annika Sjökvist thus had the winner, the third and the fourth home in the race worth SEK 100,000. At the same time it was swift revenge for the ownership group at Stall Klaring, who a race earlier had had to settle for second with Lush Life (Appel Au Maitre).

“Golden Grace is quite a big, powerful horse, so I did not think the weight would be a problem. Today we closed the blinkers further and dropped back slightly in trip”, Annika Sjökvist explained.

The Jimmy Mack filly was bred by Stuteri Saccracing.

The second win was a much closer affair. The contest over 2,100 metres developed into a duel between two three-year-olds, in which Campari Shakerato (Supremacy) answered back every time Elione Chaves and Fictional Science (Shaman) applied the pressure. In the end the smallest possible margin separated the pair, with many lengths back to My Number One (Reliable Man).

“I could not see for myself who was first past the post. But whatever the case, Campari Shakerato put in a hugely strong effort today. She actually has a pure sprinting pedigree, but it is only this year that we have discovered that the longer distances suit her better. This horse can only get better next season”, said Annika Sjökvist, who trains the Irish import for the Racehorses and Bubbles syndicate.

It was the mare’s third career win – and the second time in five weeks that 20-year-old Jacob Kvisla has taken a double home from a midday meeting at Bro Park.

The Norwegian apprentice, who earlier in the summer became the overall winner of the Ole Larsen Young Riders’ Championship, also won two races here on 5 August.

The day’s two-year-old race, a maiden over 1,400 metres on dirt worth SEK 90,000, became a contest between two debutantes.

The Caroline Malmborg-trained Humble Vibes (Sioux Nation) was the stronger of them and secured the SEK 45,000 first prize for Stall Humlan with a comfortable length in hand. The Patrick Wahl-trained Mary On The Run (Authentic) was second, a length and a half ahead of the Roy Arne Kvisla-trained Noble Joker (Practical Joke).

“She has the same female family as Lamborghini BF. I know that she is a class horse, but for her to win straight away on her debut still came as something of a surprise. She is entered for Vinterfavoriternas Pris, but we will take one start at a time”, said Caroline Malmborg.

The Irish-bred filly was bought for €24,000 through the agent Paul Harley at the Tattersalls Ireland Breeze Up in the spring.

Humble Vibes is out of the winning Camacho mare Elisheva, who is herself a half-sister to the Jägersro top sprinter Lamborghini BF (Holy Roman Emperor).

Another half-sister to Elisheva, Miss Phillyjinks, is incidentally the dam of the Prix Marcel Boussac (Gr.1) winner Tiger Tanaka.

Jacob Kvisla’s father also made it onto the winners’ list. In the maiden over 2,350 metres the Roy Arne Kvisla-trained Blue Moon (Swipe) shed her maiden tag at the seventh attempt, when Elin Hedman brought the mare home first by a neck.

Danish breeding filled the next two places, and both were bred at York Stutteri. The Elin Ahlin-trained Charming Minx (Juniper Tree) was second, while her stablemate Det Blir Bra (Juniper Tree) – who is registered in the name of Cat Racing, which is likewise based at York – followed three-quarters of a length later.

Blue Moon is owned by Stall Valhall, was bred by KELE Invest and is out of Jamaica (Barocci), who herself won the Magic Million as a two-year-old.

The opening race of the day went to another first-time winner. Maria Andersson both owns and trains Nymphadora (Geniale), who at the sixth attempt took her first career win in the Class 5 handicap over 1,200 metres.

Marika Masuhr rode the three-year-old filly to a win by a length and a half from that same Lush Life, with only a head back to Dark Secret (Uppercut Action).

Ylva Brandt landed the remaining contest of the day, the Class 4 handicap over 1,600 metres, in which the five-year-old Jessamine (Air Force Blue) took up the running from the start and defended her lead by a head from the Oscar Berneklint-trained Jadina (Devil’s Drink). Four lengths further back came her stablemate Samantha Phi (Appel Au Maitre) with Jacob Kvisla in the saddle.

Bro Park next races on Sunday 20 September, when the Stockholm Cup International (Gr.3) is on the card.
