One of last winter’s biggest feel-good stories, Constitution Hill, makes his comeback at Kempton on Saturday in the Group 3 William Hill September Stakes over 2400 metres.
Constitution Hill (Blue Bresil) is the story of one of England’s best jumpers over several seasons, who at the end of 2025 fell in his last four starts.
It was clear that the now nine-year-old gelding no longer cared for the hurdles, so trainer Nicky Henderson had a difficult decision to make.
A rare switch to the Flat was decided upon. There, he won first time out at Southwell in February – with Oisin Murphy in the saddle.
That win was followed up by another at Kempton in March, this time under Ryan Moore.
Now Constitution Hill is back at Kempton after a break of almost six months. It will be his first Group race as a Flat horse, whereas over hurdles he has won several Grade 1 races.
This time Nicky Henderson has opted for the young jockey sensation Billy Loughnane, and the task does not look entirely impossible, as only seven horses have been entered and Constitution Hill is the only runner arriving on the back of a win.
The first prize is just under £54,000.
