Stark Fyensløbet: Sea The Sunrise crowned a jubilant day for Sandie Kjær

It was Sandie Kjær’s afternoon at Fyens Væddeløbsbane. Sandie won the day’s feature race and added the Odense Milen with a double on top. The biggest of the wins was taken in the Stark Fyensløbet 2026, where the four-year-old Sea The Sunrise won the 60,000 kroner first prize under Jacob Johansen.

Klampenborg in pictures: Ladies’ Day, Saturday 5 September

Besides the main events, the Danish Oaks and the Danish Criterium, Ladies’ Day at Klampenborg also brought the amateur riders’ time-honoured Taittinger Skandinavisk Ladies Cup, won by Denmark’s Matilde Kløve, and the equally time-honoured Best Dressed competitions. Here is the whole raceday through photographer Burt Seeger’s lens.

Lady Irene took the Danish Oaks — and now goes for a historic treble

Lady Irene won the BOLOU Fine Jewellery Danish Oaks on Saturday by three and a half lengths from her stablemate Jazz. The Niels Petersen-trained filly already has the Svenskt Oaks on her CV and can become the first in history to win all three Scandinavian Oaks. Next stop is the Norsk Oaks at home at Øvrevoll.

Danish Criterium: Stepdance fooled them all by a head

Bent Olsen’s Stepdance was left to his own devices in the betting, but won the Herman Sallings Mindeløb Danish Criterium on Saturday by a head from Søren Jensen’s Mallee Sand. The DKK 150,000 went to Stald Spitco in the day’s biggest surprise — the winner’s first success at the third attempt.

Entries ready for Fyensløbet day at Odense

Fyens Væddeløbsbane stages the biggest event of the year in Odense on Saturday 12 September. The Stark Fyensløbet over 2300 metres is the day’s best-endowed contest with DKK 120,000 in total prize money. The card also features the Odense Milen, the Fyens 3-års Cup and the Elkær Stutteri Fuldblods Fonds Ærespræmieløb – all worth DKK 60,000.

Danish national statistics as at 31 August 2026

By the end of August, Lea Olsen has made what looks like a decisive move in the race for the Danish trainers’ championship. The yard has now passed 20 winners on the Danish tracks, and Lea is more than DKK 900,000 clear of her nearest rival, Bettina Andersen.

Klampenborg on Saturday: 14 in the Danish Oaks, 15 in the Danish Criterium

Klampenborg is ready for another cracker of a Scandinavian big-race day on Saturday – this time with the Danish Oaks and the Herman Sallings Mindeløb Dansk Kriterium as the headline events. 14 fillies were declared on Monday morning for the Danish Oaks, while the two-year-olds’ Criterium has drawn a full house of 15 runners.

Silver Legend gained full revenge in the Sensommer Cup

Friday’s celebration of the handicappers at Klampenborg produced exactly the headline it had promised: In the Sensommer Cup, Bettina Andersen’s Silver Legend delivered as the red-hot favourite and put in their place the very rivals who finished ahead of him in the Golden Mile (L) in May. The evening’s three richly endowed handicap finals all went to Sweden, while the two-year-old race was won by Young Eagle for L.T. Racing and Veronika Jandová.

Tina Mortensen and Diego Pedroza each landed a treble at Aarhus

The Funen duo of Tina Mortensen and Diego Pedroza took three of the six races at Jydsk Væddeløbsbane on Saturday evening. The feature, Ritmester Frigaards Mindeløb, went to Silver Wings for Lokalebasen.dk – the same ownership that an hour and a half earlier had seen its own homebred two-year-old debutante Storm Shadow get off the mark.

Obituary: Desmond Scarlett, 82

GalopSport has received the sad news that the former jockey and Derby-winning trainer Desmond Scarlett has passed away. “Des” came to Norway from England in 1967, and two years later he moved on to Denmark, where he will be remembered above all for his many big-race successes as a trainer at Klampenborg.

Racecard ready: six races at Aarhus on Saturday

Jydsk Væddeløbsbane stages six races on Saturday evening, with the first off at 18.05 – and the card opens with a maiden for the two-year-olds, in which Tina Mortensen gives Storm Shadow her debut – a full sister to this year’s Danish Derby third Red Moondancer.

16 entries for Stark Fyensløbet

Entries have now been taken for two of the big events on Fyensløbet day, Stark Fyensløbet over 2,300 metres and Odense Milen over 1,650 metres. The two contests have attracted 16 and 13 possible candidates respectively.

Two-Year-Old Maiden Series: Kohira supreme in light blue

Patrick Wilson-trained Kohira got off the mark at the second time of asking on Saturday afternoon and, together with Veronika Jandová’s debutant Space Memory, gave Lulu Tøpholm a one-two. Later in the afternoon Reine d’Allure also won in the light blue colours.
