Melissa Vesterholm had a hand in three of the five winners at Jydsk Væddeløbsbane on Sunday afternoon, and in the day’s best-paid race, the Marselisborg Handicap, she was both trainer and rider. Napoleon (Al Shemali) carried 53 kilos and crossed the line first ahead of top weight Call Me Al.
Napoleon met the 2150 metres with twelve kilos less on his back than Tina Mortensen’s Call Me Al (Al Shemali). He won by two and a half lengths, and from there it was a further three and a half lengths back to Lea Olsen’s Zavannah (Havana Gold).
The first prize of DKK 25,000 was the biggest of the day and went to Claus Gregersen’s Horseracing and Breeding.
Moesgaard Handicap
Napoleon was bred by Berner Olsen, and the win was his fourth in 39 starts – and his second in a row after the Højgaard Hestehospital Ærespræmie at Odense last time out.
Behind him came Kaj Sørensen-trained King (Al Shemali) and Keld Chr. Karlsen’s Onyx (Royal Experiment) on the last prize-winning places.
In the race before it Melissa Vesterholm had also saddled the winner of the day’s second best-paid contest, without riding it herself.
Stine Bukballe rode three-year-old Irish Supreme (Supremacy) to a comfortable one and a half length win over 2000 metres.
First and third for Sandie Kjær
Irish Supreme is owned by Preben Ahl and Lene Telling Andersen, and it was his second win in twelve starts.
Behind him came Lars Chr. Nielsen’s Pura Vida (Gustav Klimt), who carried the race’s heaviest burden of 65 kilos and is both owned and bred by him, while Mikkel Johansen-trained Cobblers Cove (Japan) was third.
Melissa Vesterholm’s third win came in the irons on Sandie Kjær’s Alakay (Wilshire Boulevard) in the Class 3 Handicap, where Lulu Tøpholm’s L.T. Racing took both first and third place.
Two starts, two wins
Alakay won by a neck from Tina Mortensen’s Lexington Avenue (Jimmy Creed), and three quarters of a length back came Royal Dane (Wilshire Boulevard).
Wilshire Boulevard shaped the whole race: his offspring filled first, third and fourth place, the last of them with Karen Grethe and Poul Erik Jensen’s Liberian Girl.
In the Class 4 Handicap Sara Slot rode three-year-old Maziyah (Giant Sandman) to a two-length win for Tina Mortensen, who owns the filly together with Kjell Ivar Brekstad.
Maziyah has now started twice and won both – the first came in the Fyns Galopklub Maidenløb. Maria Løgtved’s Camar (Advertise) was second ahead of Gintonik (Red Cactus).
The day began with Birgitte Nielsen’s Tullamore (Al Shemali), who in her twelfth start finally came home first.
Matilde Kløve rode Hans Bundgaard’s four-year-old filly to a win by a neck from Evan (Evasive), and a good length back came Totally Convinced (Appel Au Maitre).
Al Shemali left his mark on the day with four offspring in the money, among them both winners Tullamore and Napoleon as well as the runner-up Call Me Al.
Three of them were bred by Berner Olsen, who was also behind What A Life and Negroni.
