Niels Petersen and his agent Edgar Byrne struck twice at the just-concluded Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2 in Newmarket. The pair got the hammer down on a filly by Chaldean and a colt by St Mark’s Basilica, both on behalf of the Danish Elkær Stutteri.

The first of the two was lot 925, a grey filly by the Group 1-winning Frankel son Chaldean out of the two-year-old winner Silver Spear (Clodovil), who was also third in the Legacy Stakes (L) at the Curragh.
Silver Spear is herself a half-sister to the Prix Saint-Alary (Gr.1) winner Jannah Rose (Frankel) and the Ridgewood Pearl Stakes (Gr.2) winner Creggs Pipes (Rip Van Winkle).
On Wednesday Petersen and Byrne followed up with the purchase of lot 1241, a bay colt by St Mark’s Basilica out of the Athasi Stakes (Gr.3) winner Dolce Strega (Zoffany).
Dolce Strega has already produced the Curragh Stakes (L) third Lunigiana (Mehmas), and she is a half-sister to the triple group winner Epona Plays (Australia), dam of the Debutante Stakes (Gr.2) winner Composing, and to the Listed-placed Bumbasina (Canford Cliffs), who in turn is the dam of the Australian Group 1 winner Amelia’s Jewel.
