Six kilos apart: Sir Brian beat Missing by a neck at Jägersro

Sir Brian carried six kilos less than Missing and won the three-year-old handicap at Jägersro by a neck — the best paid race of Wednesday and the biggest payout of the day. Maikel Narvaez Bravo and Per-Anders Gråberg each rode a double, and Annette Stjernstrand trained two winners.

Six kilos and a neck

The three-year-old handicap over 1600 metres was the best paid event of the day with 150.000 Swedish kronor on offer and a weight range from 62 down to 52 kilos.

Sir Brian (Zaahid) turned out on 54 kilos and won in 1.39,3 by a neck from Missing (Red Cactus), who carried 60. From there it was a head further back to Bolzano (Gale Force Ten), the lightest in the field on 52, and another neck to the unlucky Bushwacker (Supremacy) at the top of the scale on 62. Less than a length covered the first four.

The weight was exactly what the preview had been about: Missing had earned more than any other horse in the field and had to carry 60 kilos for Bettina Andersen and Michael Stounberg’s Investia Group A/S. Oliver Wilson kept him going to the line, but the six kilos were too many in the end. Missing was bred at Stutteri Hjortebo.

Sir Brian is a three-year-old gelding trained by Annika Sjökvist and ridden by Alina Öhgren for Racehorses & Bubbles. He was bred by Sonja Olsson, and the win brought in 75.000 Swedish kronor plus a breeders’ bonus of 30.000 — the biggest payout of the day.

Three doubles in seven races

Maikel Narvaez Bravo opened his double in the Klass 5 Löpning over 1730 metres, where Zwicky Racing’s Majidah (Juniper Tree) won by three lengths for Lennart Reuterskiöld Jr.

Fourteen horses made up the biggest field of the day, and there was a dead heat for fourth.

Maikel closed the double in the two-year-old race, where Francisco Castro’s Matteusinthejungle (Bungle Inthejungle) won by a nose from Lady Is Back (Starman). Only two horses came to post.

Per-Anders Gråberg rode the second double of the day.

He opened with Roy Arne Kvisla’s Jiff’s Army (Saxon Warrior), who won the Klass 5 Löpning over 1200 metres by three and a half lengths, and he took the day’s race for purebred Arabians, the Sprint Cup, by seven lengths on Janusz Kozlowski’s Wasmy Al Khalediah.

The third double was Annette Stjernstrand’s in the training ranks. Coachella (Earthlight) won the Klass 4 Handicap over 1200 metres by three lengths under her owner Nathalie Mortensen, and Goddessoffortune (Appel Au Maitre) won the last prize race of the day, the Klass 4 Handicap over 2200 metres for amateur riders, by half a length under Moa Fägerhall. Both run for Nathalie Mortensen.
