Bente and Magne Jordanger turned down a million kroner for Voix Du Maitre at last year’s Scandinavian Open Yearling Sale. On Saturday afternoon the Appel Au Maitre colt brought 300,000 of them home at Klampenborg – and after three starts he is still unbeaten.
Voix Du Maitre (Appel Au Maitre) settled Dansk Galops Auktionsløb by three quarters of a length under Oliver Wilson, but it was neither Kriterium winner Stepdance (Al Shemali), Produce Stakes winner La Belle Appelée (Appel Au Maitre) nor Breeders’ Trophy Juvenile runner-up I Got Lucky (Juniper Tree) who came closest.
Instead it was Niels Petersen’s Bella Sienna (Study Of Man) who crossed the line second ahead of Bent Olsen’s strong-finishing Stepdance (Al Shemali), while Lea Olsen’s Chacaya (Appel Au Maitre) was a further three lengths back in fourth.
Stepdance had otherwise fooled everyone by a head in Dansk Kriterium on 5 September – and over exactly the 1400 metres that was the distance this time as well.
With 600,000 kroner in prize money and 300,000 to the winner, the Auktionsløb is Denmark’s richest two-year-old race.
For Voix Du Maitre it was a third win in three starts. He debuted at Øvrevoll in July and then took the Breeders’ Trophy Juvenile at Bro Park on 30 August by a length, and he is out of Voix d’Amie, who won that very same Swedish feature in 2020 for Stall Perlen.
Jan-Erik Neuroth trains him, and the colt is Bente and Magne Jordanger’s own breeding.
The day belonged to the Auktionsløb winner’s sire in every respect.
Appel Au Maitre delivered four of the day’s eight winners – besides Voix Du Maitre also Nevercantell, Amazing Pace and Sir Diamond – and he was responsible for fourth and fifth in the Auktionsløb as well, through Chacaya and Azisol.
Lulu Tøpholm’s Playman (Starman) opened the day by winning the two-year-old maiden over 1200 metres at odds of 16.55.
The gelding won by a good length from Goodmorningmoo (Moohaajim), and then followed Icelady Carlras (Oasis Dream), Honolulu (Moohaajim) and Eko Eleganze (Appel Au Maitre) with half a length between each.

Lea Olsen won the day’s second race with Dorte and Keld Moe Jacobsen’s Biot (City Light), who under Per-Anders Gråberg took the 60,000 kroner by three quarters of a length from Sign O’The Times (Kuroshio).
In the third race Sweden’s Martin Persson was both owner and trainer of Isaynomore (Giant Sandman), whom Marika Masuhr steered home by three quarters of a length from Hockey Carlras (Moohaajim).
Persson landed a double later in the afternoon, and it came with a bang: Nevercantell (Appel Au Maitre) won the 1800 metres by seven lengths under Jacob Johansen. King (Al Shemali) was second, three lengths ahead of Cece Breakthru (Cloth Of Stars).
Bente and Magne Jordanger, Jan-Erik Neuroth and Oliver Wilson had a double of their own as well.
In the sixth race over 2300 metres three-year-old Amazing Pace (Appel Au Maitre) won by a length from Great Green Rose (Dandy Man) and Play The Jack (Elzaam).
In the seventh race Appel Au Maitre struck again.
Helene Lillelund’s Sir Diamond (Appel Au Maitre) won the 2300 metres by a good length under Nicolaj Stott for Rikke Rohbach Bonde, and Bartholdi (Justify) held second by three quarters of a length from Mumbo Jumbo (Moohaajim).
Sir Diamond was bred at Stutteri Hjortebo, where his sire stands.
Saturday at Klampenborg closed with a win for Niels Petersen’s Konnichiwa (Japan), who took the first victory of his career in a three-year-old handicap over 2300 metres by two lengths from Don Torkdahl (Lucky Vega), while Magic Cat (Juniper Tree) was a further seven lengths back in third.
Carlos Lopez was in the irons on John Kirketerp’s Konnichiwa, who we will in all likelihood see again in Dansk St. Leger in October.
The championships: Petersen pulled clear, Wilson closed in
The race day moved the championships as well. The jockeys’ championship is decided on number of wins, and there Carlos Lopez went into Klampenborg five clear of Oliver Wilson.
Wilson won both the Auktionsløb and the sixth race, while Lopez took the day’s last with Konnichiwa, and the lead has shrunk to four – 23 wins to 19. Per-Anders Gråberg and Jacob Johansen both reached their tenth win on the day.
The trainers’ and breeders’ championships, by contrast, are decided on prize money, and on the training side just 4,670 kroner separated Niels Petersen and Lea Olsen before the race day.
Petersen collected 182,500 with Konnichiwa’s win in the last race and the second places of Bella Sienna and Sign O’The Times, while Lea Olsen took 98,750 spread across four placed runners.
The lead has thus grown to 88,420 kroner.
The day’s biggest leap belongs to Jan-Erik Neuroth. Voix Du Maitre and Amazing Pace gave him 318,000 kroner in a single afternoon – more than he had collected in the whole of the rest of the season – and he moves from ninth to sixth with 608,500 kroner. Before Saturday he had had six Danish runners in 2026.
The breeders’ championship, on the other hand, is settled with the door slammed shut. Stutteri Hjortebo passed two million kroner with Sir Diamond as the winner, and now stands at 2,042,780 kroner – almost six times as much as Berner Olsen in second.
