Dansk Galops Auktionsløb: Unbeaten Voix Du Maitre takes on the Criterium winner — DKK 600,000 at stake

There is DKK 600,000 in the Dansk Galops Auktionsløb, and DKK 300,000 of it goes to the winner. The race is run over 1400 metres as the fourth event of the day at 14.15, and the condition of entry is simple: the horse must have been through the ring at the Scandinavian Open Yearling Sale 2025 at York Stutteri. The symbolism is hard to miss, because the day before, on 18 September, this year’s yearlings go under the hammer.

The field is shaping up as the strongest gathering of the crop so far. The unbeaten Voix Du Maitre (Appel Au Maitre) arrives with two wins from two starts: his debut at Øvrevoll in July and, most recently, the Breeders’ Trophy Juvenile at Bro Park on 30 August, where Stall Perlen’s colt found a gap with 200 metres to run and won by a length.

Bente and Magne Jordanger’s horse is trained by Jan-Erik Neuroth and ridden by Oliver Wilson. He is out of Voix d’Amie, who won the Breeders’ Trophy Juvenile herself in 2020, and the owners turned down a bid of one million kroner for him at last year’s Scandinavian Open Yearling Sale.

The runner-up from Bro Park gets another chance. I Got Lucky (Juniper Tree) was a length behind Voix Du Maitre in Sweden, but had won the Stald Klampenborg 2-års Maidenserien on Derby day by five lengths before that — and his knowledge of Klampenborg may well count in his favour.

Carsten Nørgaard’s Airborne Racing owns him, Niels Petersen trains him and Carlos Lopez rides. From the same stable comes Bella Sienna (Study Of Man), third in the Breeders’ Trophy Juvenile, with Lorenzo Putzulu.

The Danish Criterium winner is in the field as well. Stepdance (Al Shemali) fooled them all by a head in the Dansk Kriterium on 5 September — over exactly the 1400 metres that await on Saturday. Stald Spitco’s gelding is trained by Bent Olsen, ridden by Maikel Narvaez Bravo and took his first career win in his third start in the Criterium.

The Produce Stakes winner La Belle Appelée (Appel Au Maitre) is out for revenge after finishing seventh in the Criterium. The Bettina Andersen-trained filly won the Stutteri Hjortebo Produce Stakes on 18 July by half a length, is the first foal out of the two-year-old queen My Jamil and was bought back for DKK 240,000 at the sale. Go Run Torkdahl, runner-up in the Produce Stakes, lines up again, and the Torkdahl colours are well represented with both Priscilla Torkdahl and Othello Torkdahl in the field. Added to them are Gyldenlak, Chacaya, Welcome, Azisol, La Mer, Lady Nicole and Nimble Feet.

Seven of the day’s eight races are now called Arqana Graduate and carry the names of horses traded (either themselves or in their dams’ wombs) at the French auction house: Brownie, King David, Mount Kilimanjaro, Nascetta, Wapeka, Queen Rouge and Privilegiado.
