Thursday evening offered no big races at Øvrevoll – but doubles aplenty instead. Cathrine Erichsen saddled winners in two consecutive races, headed by the Danish-bred A Million Dreams, while Knut O. Arnesen, Nora Hagelund Holm and Elione Chaves also recorded two victories apiece.
A Million Dreams has otherwise mostly made her name with second places: in the Svenskt and Norsk Oaks last year, and most recently in the Kopparmärralöpning in Gothenburg at the end of July.
In the Sølvdivisjon over 1,730 metres on grass, however, BFP Racing’s Moohaajim daughter came out on top, crossing the line with the narrowest of margins together with Harry Willian Wessner ahead of Meelaf (Iffraah) – with Light Garden (Almanzor) a further neck away in third – for a first prize of NOK 36,400.
A Million Dreams was bred at Stutteri Hjortebo and is a full sister to King To Be, who finished second in the Bucherer Danish Derby at Klampenborg last Saturday.
The victory completed a trainer double for Cathrine Erichsen, who had won the preceding race, the Norsk Forening for Fullblodsavl Løp over 1,730 metres, with Team Finn Kristiansen’s Lucky Diamond (Hallucinate). Elione Chaves rode the Monica Veseth-bred Lucky Diamond to a three-quarter-length victory over Lady Denali (Sporting Chance), and the first prize was worth NOK 37,500.
That also gave Chaves a double, as earlier in the evening he had been in the irons on Another Beauty (Appel Au Maitre), who shed her maiden tag over 1,800 metres.
Stall Lillemax’ Another Beauty – most recently second behind Super Smooth (Quarterback) in the Skandinavisk Mesterskap for three-year-olds – won by half a length from her stablemate Grand Cascade (Gleneagles), giving Annike Bye Hansen both first and second place. The Niels Petersen-trained Jazz (Juniper Tree) finished third.
Knut O. Arnesen answered back with two training victories. Stall Meant To Be’s Blue Mountains (Blue Point) won the Høymyr Hesteutstyr Cup VI over 1,370 metres with Fernando Manzo – three lengths ahead of the Danish-bred Queen Of Hearts (Pistachio) – and in the Sølvdivisjon over the sprint trip of 1,170 metres, the Irish-bred Final Angel (Shaman) won by a head from Niels Petersen’s Sign O’The Times (Kuroshio).
Sandro De Paiva rode Final Angel to victory after having collected three second places earlier in the evening.
The day’s biggest first prize of NOK 40,950 went, incidentally, to Silja Støren, whose Swedish-bred Chariot (Barocci), together with Manuel Martinez, landed the two-year-old race for Scandinavian-breds over 1,170 metres.
Chariot, bred at Rävdansens Stuteri and owned by Hanne og Silja, won by half a length from the Annike Bye Hansen-trained Hello Darling (Alson), while the Danish-bred Bella Sienna (Study Of Man) took third place.
Nora Hagelund Holm made a clean sweep of the two concluding races. First she won the Jerndivisjon over 1,600 metres with the outsider Karismatic (Mutajally), whom Hallvard Soma trains for Full rulle med Blichfeldt – a good two lengths ahead of Wicked Knight (Mutajally) – and in the day’s closing Grunndivisjon over 2,400 metres she followed up with the Steinar Holm-trained Svenn Anton Nosto (Mutajally), the owners’ own homebred, who won by a length and a half from Warning Shot (Falco).
Both of Hagelund Holm’s winners are by Mutajally (Teofilo).
