Great Wish lands popular home win in the Zawawi Sprint Cup (L)

The Zawawi Sprint Cup (L), worth DKK 300,000, gathered the sprinting elite on Derby Day – but at the line there was no doubt: the Bent Olsen-trained Great Wish (Night Of Thunder), with Elione Chaves in the saddle, won by almost two lengths as the popular hot favourite.

The five-year-old chestnut, owned by Lone & Kaj Nielsens Fond, won the Dubai Sprint (L) at Meydan earlier this year and has since followed up with enormous performances at Group 1 level, both at Meydan and at Royal Ascot.

Behind the winner, Roy Arne Kvisla’s Aurinko (Karakontie) ran a strong race in second for Per-Anders Gråberg, while Elkær Stutteri’s Ides Of March (Wootton Bassett) finished third for Niels Petersen and Carlos Lopez.

For Bent Olsen it was the biggest result of the day, and the first prize was worth DKK 165,000 for Great Wish.
