La Belle Appelée won the Stutteri Hjortebo Produce Stakes

The first offspring out of the former two-year-old queen My Jamil landed the year’s first big two-year-old race at Klampenborg, the Stutteri Hjortebo Produce Stakes, on Saturday evening. The Appel Au Maitre daughter La Belle Appelée won by half a length from Go Run Torkdahl.

La Belle Appelée had learned a great deal from the first start of her life, in which she finished second behind the import Be My Warrior (Saxon Warrior), and this time the filly was first into the home straight in the hands of Oliver Wilson.

From there the pair held the lead for a long spell, and towards the finish Go Run Torkdahl (Go Go Gadget) closed considerably, though without ever seriously threatening the winner.

A further six lengths back came My Fighter (Al Shemali), who like the winner is trained by Bettina Andersen.

Bettina Andersen also had La Belle Appelée’s dam My Jamil (Al Shemali) in her care throughout the mare’s racing career, which in addition to her great triumphs as a two-year-old also included victory in the Danish 2000 Guineas.

La Belle Appelée is owned by Stald Belle Appelée and was bred by Stutteri Langkær ApS at York Stutteri, where My Jamil now has her permanent breeding base.

This year’s Produce Stakes winner was bought back for DKK 240,000 at the Scandinavian Open Yearling Sale, and this autumn there will be a new chance to acquire an offspring out of My Jamil, as York Stutteri presents a Hurricane Red half-brother to La Belle Appelée.

The first prize in the Stutteri Hjortebo Produce Stakes was worth DKK 100,000, and the two other names among the prize-winners were Bent Olsen’s duo Stepdance (Al Shemali) and Half Angel (Moohaajim).
