Lulu Tøpholm’s L.T. Racing rounded off a magical long weekend on Sunday with two wins at Jägersro, as both the 2-year-old Persuade Me and the 7-year-old Moon String bookended the card. Tøpholm has thus been able to celebrate five wins in four different countries in just three days.
Persuade Me (Cotai Glory) opened the day by pulling eight lengths clear of his two rivals in the novice race, and barely three hours later the 7-year-old Moon String (El Kabeir) closed the meeting by winning the concluding Class 2 handicap.
The novice race over 1200 metres on dirt attracted only three runners, but it still made an impression. Veronika Jandová-trained Persuade Me was ridden by Jacob Johansen and carried 57 kilos, and as the pair passed the post there were eight lengths back to Francisco Castro’s hot favourite High Coast Love (Coulsty), who had otherwise won his only previous start.
A further ten lengths back came Vanja Sandrup’s Otto (Ardad). The first prize was SEK 45,000, and it was his first career win at the second attempt.
Persuade Me was bought through the agent Paul Harley for 14,000 guineas at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up in May, and the chestnut colt has a striking pedigree as a full brother to the Prix de l’Abbaye (Gr.1) winner The Platinum Queen, who has also been second in the Nunthorpe Stakes (Gr.1), and a half-brother to the Thoroughbred Stakes (Gr.3) winner Seagull’s Eleven (Galileo Gold).
Veronika Jandová let Persuade Me make his debut in Germany in the middle of August, where the colt finished eighth, but in his first attempt at home in Scandinavia it turned into a superior victory.
Moon String is, unlike Persuade Me, a well-known name at Jägersro. Annika Delinder-trained Moon String won the eighth race of his life, and all eight of those wins have come at Jägersro.
It was also his third win this year, and with Lorenzo Putzulu in the saddle he crossed the line by the shortest possible margin ahead of Jessica Long-trained Apple Jacks (Appel Au Maitre) with Jacob Johansen. A good length further back came Ocean Side (Dark Angel) ahead of Maybach BF (Australia).
The first prize in the Class 2 handicap over 2200 metres was SEK 57,000.
A Danish winner also came in the Class 3 handicap, where Bent Olsen-trained Geoffrey (Dark Angel) finally broke his duck. Jacob Johansen brought the 7-year-old horse first past the post by a neck ahead of Pia Göransson’s Röde Baronen (Casamento), with just under three lengths back to Zingaro Boy (Zoffany) and Master Zone (Appel Au Maitre) in the next places.
Geoffrey, who is owned by Lone & Kaj Nielsens Fond, was making his 42nd career start, and the win was his fourth – the first since June 2024. That left Jacob Johansen with the only double of the day, to which he added seconds with Missing and Apple Jacks.
The best-paying contest of the day was the 3-year-old handicap over 2200 metres worth SEK 150,000, and it was won by Fredrik Reuterskiöld-trained Ferrari BF (Mo Town) with Oliver Wilson in the saddle.
Ferrari BF defied top weight of 62 kilos and won by a length from Bettina Andersen’s Missing (Red Cactus), who was second in Svenskt Derby this summer. Three lengths further back came Patas de Aranha (Sioux Nation) ahead of Icefall (Juniper Tree), while Birgitte Nielsen’s Jazoo (Juniper Tree) was fifth and Rikke Rohbach Bonde’s Sayhello Carlras (Hello Youmzain) sixth.
It was the second win of the career for Ferrari BF, who is owned by Hästgruppen i Lund.
The Class 2 handicap over 1200 metres went to Camilla Nilsson-trained News Ahead (Dream Ahead), who with Dayversom De Barros in the saddle won by half a length from Kinsman (Exceed And Excel) and Morecentsfrom Ky (Goldencents). It was the second win in 21 starts for the 4-year-old mare.
In the Class 4 handicap the 10-year-old Xtara (Xtension) took his second win in under three weeks. Marie Lustig-trained Xtara was ridden by Jacob Kvisla and won by a head from Blackcurantspangle (Starspangledbanner), while Marc Elsborg’s Princess Meydan (Al Shemali) was third.
Stall Marttorp and Pia Göransson had a good day in any case: on top of the second place with Röde Baronen, the stable won the Class 5 race over 2200 metres with Princess Latifa (Casamento) and Josefin Landgren.
The mare won by half a length from L’Appel du Tigre (Appel Au Maitre) and Kengät Jalassa (Helsinki), while Mikkel Johansen’s Cobblers Cove (Japan) was fifth.
Finally, Dressedforsuccess (Gengis) won the eighth division of the amateur riders’ series Börjes Champion ARK Cup over 1730 metres.
Sandra Larsen-trained Dressedforsuccess was ridden by Indra Frid Ålrud and took the fifth win of her career, easily by three lengths from Queen Of Trade (Trade Storm) and Clauses Sheik (Al Shemali).
