Bro Park: Da capo for El Kerola?

El Kerola won by six lengths over 2350 metres on the dirt track at Bro Park on 7 October, and on Sunday he meets both the runner-up and the fourth again in the Svea Ingenjörskårs Minneslöpning. The weights have moved: Iceman carried five kilos more than him that day, on Sunday the difference is one. Seven races and 600.000 Swedish kronor, and everything is run on dirt.

Six lengths in October, four kilos back

The Svea Ingenjörskårs Minneslöpning over 2350 metres at 12.20 has 114.000 Swedish kronor on offer and nine runners. The weight scale is the rating minus 23 kilos for three-year-olds and 20 kilos for older horses.

El Kerola (El Kabeir) is three years old, trained by Roy Arne Kvisla and ridden by Per-Anders Gråberg for Sandra Brolin and Lisbeth Bolin. On 7 October he won over exactly 2350 metres on dirt in 2.32,6 by six lengths from Iceman (Go Go Gadget), while Los Angeles (Juniper Tree) finished fourth, ten lengths behind the winner.

That day El Kerola carried 59 kilos and Iceman 64. On Sunday El Kerola meets with 55 kilos and blinkers, Iceman with 56 and Los Angeles with 56 — the two are four kilos better off against the winner than they were three weeks ago.

Los Angeles has won twice this year, both times over the trip on dirt: Bro Park on 5 August over 2350 metres by five lengths and Jägersro on 16 August over 2200 metres by a neck. He was bred in Denmark by Seven52 Horse Racing at York Stutteri and is trained by the amateur Kajsa Svensson Holmsten.

Iceman was bred in Denmark too — at Stutteri Thorskovgaard — and is trained by his owner Maria Jansson. He has 48 starts and eight wins behind him, but no win this year; the second place on 7 October was one of two this season.

The highest rating in the field and two fresh wins

The highest rating in the field belongs to the seven-year-old Bearwinner (Verde Mar) on 81, and he carries 59 kilos with apprentice Elin Hedman. He has started only four times this year, but won the latest: Bro Park on 5 August over 2100 metres on dirt. He is also the richest in the field with 648.180 Swedish kronor from 43 starts.

Charlie Nosto (Mutajally) also comes from a win — Øvrevoll on 11 October over 1800 metres on turf, where Oliver Wilson rode him for the first time. The Norwegian-bred three-year-old has earned 561.735 Swedish kronor from fourteen starts for Jan-Erik Neuroth and Harry Nilsen. He has tried the dirt track only once, when he finished third over 1730 metres at Jägersro in July.

Tasmanian Legend (Australia) won twice during the summer on turf and was second over 2350 metres on dirt on 3 June, but was withdrawn from his latest intended start on 20 September as not fit to race. Sonic (Devil’s Drink) is trained, owned and was bred by Ann-Marie Säberg and has three wins this year. Duke Of Hastings (Juniper Tree) meets with 54 kilos and was second behind Tasmanian Legend in July. The lightest weight in the field is carried by Euro (Mutajally) with 51 kilos — he has never run further than 1600 metres.

The rest of the day

The first race of the day is the Börjes Champion ARK Cup 10 – Final at 11.50, a final for amateur riders over 2350 metres with 52.000 Swedish kronor and nine runners.

Caroline Malmborg has the top two weights: Douze Points (Barocci) with 70 kilos and Queens Legend (Giant Sandman) with 69. Elin Ahlin runs the Danish-bred Det Blir Bra (Juniper Tree) and Charming Minx (Juniper Tree), and the Norwegian-bred Warning Shot (Falco) comes from Åge Mathisen’s stable.

The two-year-old race over 1400 metres at 12.43 has 100.000 Swedish kronor and seven runners, and only one of them has won: Humble Vibes (Sioux Nation) took a maiden over the same 1400 metres on dirt on 9 September by a length from Mary On The Run (Authentic).

On Sunday they meet again, but now with 57,5 kilos for the winner and 54,5 for the runner-up. Wall Hanger (Hunter’s Light) makes his debut after the qualifier at Bro Park last Sunday.

The klass 3 handicap over 1200 metres at 13.06 has 78.000 Swedish kronor and eight runners. Lost My Sock (Bungle Inthejungle) has the highest rating on 82 ahead of North Pacific (Kuroshio) on 80, and Annika Sjökvist has two of Racehorses and Bubbles’ horses in the race, Zandra Bee and Daybreezer, both by Jimmy Mack.

The maiden over 1600 metres at 13.29 has 90.000 Swedish kronor and eight two-year-olds. The highest rated is Merry Ann T (Churchill) on 75, Patrick Wahl has three of the eight — November Rust and Short List by Swipe and Michelle Est Belle (Appel Au Maitre) — and Sassari (Awtaad) makes her debut after two qualifiers, the latest in 0.50,5 last Sunday.

The klass 2 handicap over 1600 metres at 13.53 is the day’s second purse of 114.000 Swedish kronor and has twelve runners. Gold Streak (Hot Streak) has the highest rating in the field on 87 and won over the same 1600 metres on dirt a year ago by a nose from Diamond Soul (Profitable); on Sunday they meet again with 65 and 64 kilos.

Jiff’s Army (Saxon Warrior) won at Jägersro on 14 October, and Appelino (Sea The Moon) runs for Stall Perlen with Oliver Wilson.

The day ends with the klass 5 handicap over 1600 metres at 14.18, where thirteen runners make up the biggest field of the day. Miss Avalanche (Swipe) carries 64,5 kilos and is both trained and ridden by Christopher Roberts.

Seven of the day’s 72 horses are by Juniper Tree, more than by any other stallion, and two of them — Los Angeles and Duke Of Hastings — line up in the Svea Ingenjörskårs Minneslöpning.
