RaceTime: Lea has passed 2.5 million in earnings

With Red Mantel’s win in Jockeyklubbens Auktionslöpning at Jägersro on Sunday, Lea Olsen now reaches 2.5 million Danish kroner in prize money in 2025. And in earnings terms it will be her best season to date. Since Lea got her professional licence, horses in her training have now earned close to 10 million kroner. An impressive success.

THE 2-YEAR-OLD STAR FILLIES HAVE CONTINUED THEIR SUCCESS.

Last year Lea Olsen had a treble in the Vinterfavoriternes Ærespræmie at Klampenborg, when Zarina won ahead of Sisi (Wentworth) and Wiggle Wine (Go Go Gadget). And they have continued their success this year.

Sisi has won at Klampenborg recently, and Wiggle Wine is another of Lea’s top scorers this year.

Wiggle Wine continued in good form when she was most recently second in the Breeders’ Prize Sprint at Øvrevoll behind No Surrender (Giant Sandman). A double triumph for the Olsen family.

Sov Gott (Appel Au Maitre) is without a win in her five starts this year, but she was second in the Danish Oaks, beaten by Happy Legend (Rock Of Gibraltar.

PROMISING 2-YEAR-OLDS READY FOR NEXT YEAR’S FEATURE RACES.

This year too Lea has already presented us with a number of 2-year-olds who can help shape the big 3-year-old races in the Derby season.

Lea has 11 2-year-olds in the stable. Five are unraced and five have won. Besides Red Mantel they are Albarella (Toronado), Beethoven (Goken), Lady Medina (Appel Au Maitre) and Lindeboy (Moohaajim).

Albarella won on Derby day, and he has run against the best in the crop. Among other things he was third in Dansk Galops Auktionsløb.

Lady Medina has also often been a runner in the big 2-year-old races. She was third in the Produce Stakes at Klampenborg, where she shed her maiden tag easily on 27 September.

Lindeboy is a winner at Jydsk Væddeløbsbane this year.

Beethoven has so far run only twice, and most recently he impressed with a commanding win at Klampenborg.

The season is not over. Several of the big 2-year-old races have not yet been run. Among them the Svenskt Kriterium and the Vinterfavoriternes Ærespræmie.

It is far from impossible that there is more in the goody bag for Lea, whose 2-year-olds have already earned almost 600,000 kroner this year.

SEVERAL OLDER HORSES ARE STILL DOING WELL.

It is the 2-year-olds and 3-year-olds who have contributed most to Lea’s earnings this year. But Lea Olsen has several older horses in the stable who are still ”fit for fight”.

Biot (City Light), Garlic (Outstrip), Giovanni Torkdahl (Lope De Vega), King Ferdinand (Elusive City) and Shining Al Danah (Iffraaj).

So far the most successful of them is Giovanni Torkdahl, who has won almost 150,000 kroner this year, among them Aalborg Væddeløbsbane’s best-paid race, the Racing Arena Aalborg Champion Stakes.

And that is one of Lea’s greatest strengths. She wins at every track. At her home track in Aarhus, in Aalborg, at Fyens Væddeløbsbane, at Klampenborg and at the other Scandinavian venues.

Lea still has to live with being ”only” second among the most successful Danish trainers. Her father, Bent, still tops the list with earnings of a good three million kroner this year.

Perhaps that will change one day, and I think the person who would be most pleased about it is Lea’s father.
