Michael Stounberg’s Majestic Dane won on debut in England

Friday’s double for the Danish-owned horses at Meydan was followed up on Saturday with an impressive debut win at Newcastle, where Michael Stounberg’s three-year-old Majestic Dane won by almost four lengths for his trainer Karl Burke.

The Showcasing colt was sent off a clear favourite for his debut on the Newcastle all-weather, and there was good reason for that, because Shane Gray had everything under control the whole way and only had to remind him of the job on turning into the straight, whereupon Majestic Dane shot clear of his rivals.

He then ran a little greenly over the last 200 metres, but that did not make the win any less convincing.

Majestic Dane was bought for €120,000 at the 2024 renewal of the Goffs Orby Sale. On that occasion Lars Kelp secured the colt on behalf of Bernt Dahl, who only a few months later passed away tragically.

Just as with Bettina Andersen-trained Missing (Red Cactus), Bernt Dahl’s long-time friend Michael Stounberg stepped in and took over the ownership of Majestic Dane – and 2026 could be a more than exciting year for both horses.
