The Scandinavian appetite for broodmares continued on Sunday in Baden-Baden, where both Stall Sigfridsson and Flemming Salomonsen were in the market during the BBAG Christmas Online Sale. It came to three mares in all, in foal to Churchill and Sea The Moon respectively.

Helena and Tor Harry Sigfridsson began with the knockdown on lot 12, the 16-year-old Biscaya Bay (Dansili), who was bought for €8,500 in foal to Churchill (Galileo).
Biscaya Bay won as a 3-year-old in France and was fourth in the Prix Minerve (Gr.3) in Deauville.
At stud she has produced six winners, among them the Group 3 and Listed-placed Barina (Gleneagles) and the formerly Lennart J:r Reuterskiöld-trained Laughingof Fear (Lope De Vega), who won twice in Sweden and once in France for The JC Organization.

Biscaya Bay is out of one of Germany’s best racing mares of the previous millennium, the Acatenango mare Borgia, who in 1997 won the Deutsches Derby (Gr.1) and later followed up by winning the Grosser Preis von Baden (Gr.1) and the Hong Kong Vase (Gr.2), while there was a second place in the Breeeders’ Cup Turf (Gr.1) and a third in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Gr.1).
Besides Biscaya Bay, Borgia is the dam of the Group 3 winner Bermuda Reef (Oasis Dream) and of the winning Born Wild, who in turn has produced the Prix Vermeille (Gr.1) winner Baltic Baroness (Shamardal) and the formerly Danish-based stallion Baltic Rock (Rock Of Gibraltar), among others.

Stall Sigfridsson struck again at lot 27, the 5-year-old Adlerflug mare Global Queen, who was bought for €28,000 and likewise in foal to Churchill (Galileo).
Global Queen is a winner as a 3-year-old and was also placed second in the Premio Terme di Merano (L) and twice third in the Grosser Preis der Privatbank ODDO BHF (L) and in the Grosser Preis der Metallbau Burckhardt (L). At her best she achieved a German handicap mark of 89.
Global Queen is out of Global Beauty, a Tiger Hill half-sister to the Group race winners Global Dream (Seattle Dancer) and Global Thrill (Big Shuffle) from a strong German Black Type line.

And finally Denmark’s Flemming Salomonsen secured the 15-year-old mare Madame (Shirocco) for €9,500; she is in foal to Sea The Moon (Sea The Stars).
Madame is unraced, but the dam of three winners at stud, two of them by Sea The Moon. In addition she had a filly foal by the same stallion earlier this year.
Madame’s half-sister Madame Moonie is also by Sea The Moon, and she is a winner over both the flat and jumps, including the Prix d’Arles Hurdle (L) at Auteuil, as well as placed third in the Prix Andre Michel Hurdle (Gr.3) at the same course.
The second dam Moneypenny (Neshad) won the Oppenheim-Rennen (L) in Cologne, and further back in the female family are the Oaks d’Italia (Gr.1) winner Meridiana and the German champion 2-year-old Monami, among others.
The former later also became the dam of the stallion Center Divider (Giant’s Causeway).
