Fyens Væddeløbsbane had one of the big days of the year on the Saturday programme, with Goffs Premier Yearling Sale Stakes as the main event. The first prize of 35,000 kroner went to Lulu Tøpholm’s Alakay, who won by a short head ahead of Strakowsky.
Sandie Kjær-trained Alakay (Wilshire Boulevard) needed every centimetre of the 1650 metres on the oval in Odense, but in the end Antonio Ferreira Matos got the five-year-old gelding sent past Tinna Hovgaard’s Strakowsky (Go Go Gadget) with Kelvin Belcourt.
In third, a good three lengths behind the leading pair, came Giovanni Torkdahl (Lope De Vega) ahead of Pinerolo (Pistachio) and the last to earn prize money, Milliondollarbaby (Efesos).
Alakay took the third win of his career, and the first this year. He started from a handicap mark of 72, which is 10 kilos below his best so far, and after three previous starts in 2025 without any great success, this time he was back in full bloom at Fyens Væddeløbsbane.
Sandie Kjær is not only the trainer, but also the breeder of Alakay, and besides Alakay she can take pleasure in having bred Lucien (Hurricane Red) and Bad Investment (Wilshire Boulevard) in one and the same crop.
The Saturday in Odense opened with a local victory for Sarah Langholm Hornstrup-trained Sun Lane (Appel Au Maitre), who under Lorenzo Putzulu won safely ahead of Torben Christensen-trained Napoleon (Al Shemali) and Tina Mortensen’s Lucky Charm (Hurricane Red).
Sun Lane, who is a half-sister to Slava Ukraini (Moohaajim), took her second win of the year in six attempts, and at the age of seven she is still a pleasure to watch on the racetrack for her owner and breeder Lars Chr. Nielsen.
Stald Basisenergi came very close to winning Dansk Galop’s first auction voucher in Aalborg the week before last, but this time they landed it instead in H C Andersen Løb over 2300 metres.
Here Let’s Go Filip (Mondialiste) namely won a captivating victory in the hands of Diego Pedroza, and besides the first prize of 25,000 kroner that meant the chance to redeem a voucher of 10,000 kroner when buying a yearling at Scandinavian Open Yearling Sale at York Stutteri on 19 September.
Let’s Go Filip is trained by Stine Schäfing, and it was the five-year-old chestnut gelding’s first win in his new yard on Funen.
Flemming Poulsen started Lone and Jens Westh’s eight-year-old chestnut mare Red Cheek Fox (Hallucinate) for only the second time this year in Højgaard Hestehospital Ærespræmie.
And for the second time it also became a victory.
Red Cheek Fox won by a length from Lea Olsen-trained Fallen Angel (Giant Sandman) and Johnny Reimer’s Lady Lee (Center Divider), and thus she secured a first prize of 15,000 kroner.
Finally Lea Olsen rounded off the race day with a double in GalopSport.dk Ærespræmie over 1800 metres, where Karin Salling’s Cortina (Appel Au Maitre) caught her stable companion Sir Antonelli (Most Improved).
In third came Mikkel Johansen’s Sugar Crust (Barocci) ahead of Tina Mortensen’s Call Me Al (Al Shemali) and Sarah Langholm Hornstrup’s Good Riddance (Al Shemali).
Cortina, who is a half-sister to the Pokalløbet (L) winner Mozart (Le Havre), took the third win of her career, and the first this year.
Again it was Lorenzo Putzulu who was first on the line, and the Italian apprentice based at Øvrevoll could leave Odense with two wins and two second places from his five rides.
