The Roy Arne Kvisla-trained Bearwinner sprinted his way to the biggest first prize of the day at the Lunchgaloppen at Bro Park on Wednesday. There was a Danish victory too, as the Danish-bred Los Angeles gave amateur trainer Kajsa Svensson-Holmsten the first training success of her career as one half of Jacob Kvisla’s double on the day, while Marika Masuhr both opened and closed the race day with a visit to the winner’s circle.

The 75,000 Swedish kronor in the feature race was won by the seven-year-old Bearwinner (Verde Mar), who together with Elin Hedman came flying up the straight in a Klass 2 Handicap over 2,100 metres on the dirt track.
The pace was strong from the start, and when the leaders began to run out of energy over the final 200 metres, Bearwinner and Offer And Receive (Showcasing) had the most left.
At the line Bearwinner was half a length in front, while there was a further half a length back to Catharina Vång’s West Bengal (Oasis Dream) in third place.
The Danish contribution of the day was delivered by Los Angeles (Juniper Tree) in a Klass 3 Handicap over 2,350 metres. Jacob Kvisla gave the Danish-bred horse a perfect trip behind the leaders, and in the straight the duo drew irresistibly clear – at the line there were five lengths back to Beckham (Shalaa) and a further almost four lengths to El Kerola (El Kabeir).
The victory was the first of the career for amateur trainer Kajsa Svensson-Holmsten, who took out her licence at the beginning of the year and has four horses in training. Los Angeles was running for the sixth time in her care after, among other things, a third place in a class 3 handicap at Bro Park on 7 July.

Kvisla was quickly back in the winner’s circle when in the following maiden race he sent the Caroline Malmborg-trained Nash O’Nality (Starspangledbanner) into the lead early. The three-year-old was unyielding all the way up the straight and shed his maiden tag at the fourth attempt with half a length back to the debutant Jadina (Devil’s Drink).
“This is a big and still quite green horse. There is definitely a lot of development to come in him”, Kvisla noted after his second winner of the day.
Wednesday thus became a veritable family affair: while father Roy Arne saddled the feature winner Bearwinner, the 20-year-old Jacob accounted for two of the day’s other victories – the Kvisla family were behind half of the visits to the winner’s circle at Bro Park.
Marika Masuhr ended the race day the way she had begun it. In the closing two-year-old race she rode Maria Andersson’s debutant Justice (Juniper Tree) to a half-length victory ahead of Thunderking (Kashgar), and in addition to the first prize of 45,000 kronor the win triggered a winner’s bonus of a further 68,000 kronor.
Juniper Tree – who was champion sire in Denmark in 2020 and now stands with Eva CS Pettersson in Skåne – was thus behind two of the day’s six winners, and it was at the same time the stallion’s second two-year-old winner in a few days, in the wake of the convincing victory of I Got Lucky on Klampenborg’s Derby day last Saturday.
Maria Andersson owns Justice together with Clarence Örhammar and Bengt Pettersson.

Masuhr’s first win had already come in the opening race, where the four-year-old Zandra Bee (Jimmy Mack) won easily by two lengths ahead of Forward Fun (Appel Au Maitre) – and made the day extra special for Annika Sjökvist, who both trains and has bred the winner as well as the full sister Crystal Clear in third place.
Both sisters are owned by Racehorses and Bubbles, and all the prize money Zandra Bee earns is donated to Barncancerfonden – this time 31,500 kronor.
Jimmy Mack was incidentally also behind the winner of the day’s second race, where Silenus Sacc after a rock-hard battle up the straight got a slight advantage over Queens Legend (Giant Sandman) in the final strides and won by a short head under Alina Öhgren.
That brought the first win of his career at the tenth attempt for the Patrick Wahl-trained gelding, who is both owned and bred by Stuteri Saccracing.
With six different trainers behind the day’s six winners, the spoils were spread widely at Bro Park.
