The two ante-post favourites, Jan-Erik Neuroth’s Icon Bling and Niels Petersen’s Wassim, battled side by side for a long way in Friday’s Norwegian 2000 Guineas at Øvrevoll. In the end Icon Bling was the stronger, however, and the son of Lope De Vega pulled clear for a comfortable three-length triumph.
Icon Bling took his third win in a row in 2025 and banked the first prize of NOK 190,000 for his big-spending owner, Bling Enterprise, who also got their first classic winner.
In second, Wassim had three quarters of a length on his stablemate War Bear (Kodi Bear), who just got past Titan Bling (Cotai Glory), while there was another 11 lengths back to Light Garden (Almanzor).
“He is a good horse, but the track was not entirely to his advantage today. Now it will be exciting to see how he handles the longer trips”, said Jan-Erik Neuroth after the win.
Icon Bling now has his sights set on the Norsk Derby in just under two months’ time.
