For the second year running the Annike Bye Hansen-trained Aphelios won convincingly in the Polar Cup (L) over 1370 metres on Norwegian Derby day. In the hands of Elione Chaves the son of Kodiac won by almost four lengths from his stablemate Youonlyliveonce, who just got past the long-time leader Crystal Love.
Aphelios can therefore still call himself unbeaten on turf in Scandinavia, and with the first prize of NOK 250,000 he has already surpassed last season’s earnings.
Last year he won six of his eight starts, while this year there have been four wins from six starts. The only two occasions on which he has not won this year have been on the Jägersro dirt track.
