Ami De Vega ‘back-to-back’ in the Oslo Cup (L)

Stall Perlen’s homebred Ami De Vega took his second win in a row in the Oslo Cup (L) at home at Øvrevoll on Friday evening. The horse, who two years ago gave his current trainer Jan-Erik Neuroth his only jockey triumph in the Norsk Derby, was unstoppable once again and cemented his status as Scandinavia’s best stayer.

After the withdrawal of Flemming Velin’s Greenland (Saxon Warrior), Ami De Vega (Lope De Vega) had been backed right down to 13:10 on the tote, and many of the colt’s supporters must have held their breath halfway up the straight.

Here Tobias Hellgren’s big outsider Double Ux (Magician) was still battling tirelessly in the hands of Nora Holm, and it was only some way past the crossing that Ami De Vega really moved up a gear and was finally able to pull decisively clear for a length-and-a-half win.

In third came Cathrine Erichsen’s Captain Chorus (Paco Boy) ahead of Hellgren’s second runner Quebello (Sea The Moon) and Annike Bye Hansen’s If He Says So (Summer Front).

It was only Ami De Vega’s second start of 2025. He made his seasonal debut with a dominant triumph in the Scandinavian Open Championship (Gr.3) at Klampenborg, and according to Jan-Erik Neuroth the next trip goes to Berlin and a run in the Group 3 contest Fürstenberg-Rennen over 2400 metres.

Ami De Vega won the Oslo Cup (L) for the second year running and secured a first prize of NOK 250,000 for Bente and Magne Jordanger’s Stall Perlen.
