Eight thoroughbred races, 72 runners and SEK 4,258,380 in prize money paid out. That was the balance sheet once Breeders’ Trophy day at Bro Park was over on Sunday – the Arabian race, the Lill Sham Cup, is kept out of the figures.
The star of the day was Niels Petersen, who won three of the four feature races with his eight runners and collected SEK 1,866,353 – a good 40 per cent of everything paid out.
Ice And Fire in the ITM Amacitalöpning, Grab The Moment in the Breeders’ Trophy Mile and Bruce Almighty in the Breeders’ Trophy Classic were the winners, and to those can be added second and third in the Breeders’ Trophy Juvenile with I Got Lucky and Bella Sienna plus Doc Holliday’s fourth place in the Classic.
Grab The Moment and Bruce Almighty are both owned by Stall Trick Or Treat, which saw SEK 1,328,440 land on the prize-money account in the space of 45 minutes.
The two came from different places – Grab The Moment was bred by part-owner Tanja Ravn Myhre herself at York Stutteri, Bruce Almighty at Stutteri Hjortebo – but both are trained by Niels Petersen, who is also behind the Amacita winner Ice And Fire.
And York Stutteri was indeed the day’s other recurring name: both Grab The Moment and Ice And Fire were born and raised at the stud, while I Got Lucky, the runner-up in the Breeders’ Trophy Juvenile, was likewise bred by York Stutteri.
Stutteri Hjortebo was the day’s biggest breeder in money terms. Bruce Almighty and King To Be gave Hjortebo a one-two in the Breeders’ Trophy Classic, where Doc Holliday was fourth, and with A Million Dreams’ second place and Zarina’s fourth in the Breeders’ Trophy Mile plus Azisol’s fourth in the Juvenile, Hjortebo-bred horses earned SEK 1,819,073 between them.
That rubs off on the sires’ list, where Appel Au Maitre stood behind both Bruce Almighty and Voix Du Maitre and gathered SEK 1,633,959 on the day – five of the 14 horses in the money in the Classic and the Juvenile were Appel Au Maitre offspring.
Measured by the trainers’ home country, this was Norway’s day.
Horses trained in Norway won four of the eight races and SEK 2,687,041 from just 14 runners – Niels Petersen’s three wins plus Jan-Erik Neuroth’s Voix Du Maitre.
Swedish-trained horses won the other four races and SEK 952,119 from 46 runners, while the 12 Danish-trained runners had to settle for SEK 619,220 without a win. King To Be’s second place in the Classic was the best Danish result, followed by the fourth places of Zarina and Azisol.
On the breeders’ side the picture is reversed: Danish-breds won three races – all of them features – and SEK 2,634,573 from 19 runners, while Swedish-breds won three races and SEK 1,219,769 from 34 runners.
Bruce Almighty’s win was also the fifth Danish success in a row in the Breeders’ Trophy Classic after Titannia (2022), Slava Ukraini (2023), Schamyl (2024) and No Surrender (2025) – and adding Grab The Moment and Ice And Fire, three of the day’s four features went to Danish-bred horses, while I Got Lucky made sure Danish breeding was represented in the money in the fourth as well.
Irish breeding won a single race (Alfaares) and SEK 222,900, English breeding likewise a single race (Crack Up Gadelius) and SEK 129,300, while the sole Norwegian-bred runner, Zofi, collected SEK 1,500.
On top of that come SEK 341,152 in Swedish breeders’ bonuses, which are not included in the prize money.
The day also offered four races away from the features.
Patrick Wahl recorded a training double: in the opening two-year-old maiden, Linda Holmén’s Satellite (Mustajeeb) won on debut by a neck from Great Lou (Calyx) under Alina Öhgren – Satellite is out of the Amacita winner Red Caviar and a full brother to Makenzie – and in the Breeders’ Trophy Classic Consolation, Stall Morot – Easy’s Approval (Wentworth) scored comfortably by a good length from Zensation (White Soxs) under Jacob Johansen, with Niels Petersen’s Tellme Y (Gleneagles) in third.
The Claes Björling Memorial was won in the very last stride by the seven-year-old Alfaares (Awtaad), who under Elin Hedman and 63 kilos got up to beat Roy Arne Kvisla’s Kodiaction (Kodiac) by a short head.
Alfaares is trained by Marie Twomey together with her husband John, who is still in hospital after an accident earlier this year. “Today Alfaares ran for John,” she said after the win.
In the amateur riders’ race, the Bezäta Memorial, Lenitha Adolfsson’s homebred Crack Up Gadelius (Cracksman) won by three lengths from Green Zabeel (Oasis Dream) under Karoline Pedersen, and in the day’s concluding purebred Arabian race, the Lill Sham Cup, Terese Compier enjoyed an owner’s one-two as Katchthewind (Mared Al Sahra) beat stablemate Madja De Faust (Madjani) by half a length.
That gave Alina Öhgren two wins on the day.
