It was a British victory in the Tattersalls Nickes Minneslöpning (L). After a battle up the straight with the home hope Grandpa’s Prince (Oasis Dream), Jane Chapple-Hyam-trained Crown Board (Lope De Vega) came out on top by half a length, and David Egan could record his first win at Bro Park.
“I have ridden at Bro Park twice before, but this is the first time I get to win here. It was a good race for us today. I knew that Crown Board would handle the dirt track well, and we quickly found a good position behind the leaders. When he then took hold of it, he kept on strongly all the way to the line”, Egan told Svensk Galopp’s Anna Thelander after the win.
The six-year-old gelding shares a handicap mark of 95 with Lord Mountbatten (Connect) and came to Bro Park in form: on 8 August he won the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup at Ascot – with Norway’s Frida Valle Skar in the saddle – and he has also run on dirt in Dubai this year.
Crown Board is owned by Laurence Holder and was bred by Ballylinch Stud.
“It was a really exciting finish to the race today. I have a second place at Bro Park from before, and it feels good to come back with a winner. Crown Board has previously run both on dirt in Dubai and on all-weather at home in England. We will certainly be back next year”, said Jane Chapple-Hyam.
Roy Arne Kvisla-trained Grandpa’s Prince battled well all the way up the straight under Per-Anders Gråberg and was beaten only half a length. From there it was a full 10 lengths back to Lord Mountbatten, who with 300 metres to run began to show signs of tiring after a hard early pace in front.
Niels Petersen had two horses in the race and got both into the frame — Lord Mountbatten in third and Be Curious (U S Navy Flag) in fifth — while Patrick Wahl’s Falkor (Barocci) was fourth.
Anna Schleusner-Fruhriep completed the field with Wilddieb (Brametot).
