Saturday at Jägersro turned into a Francisco Castro show on the trainer’s home track: He won the day’s biggest race, the Roussica Mile, with Civilon and extended his remarkable juvenile streak with Matteusinthejungle. Birgitte Nielsen’s Jazoo provided a Danish win in dominant style.
The Roussica Mile – with SEK 124,000 in prize money over 1,600 metres – was settled in a tight stretch duel: seven-year-old Civilon (Hallucinate) held on under Jacob Johansen by a neck from Lennart Reuterskiöld Jr-trained Zidane (Areion), with Danish-bred Master Zone (Appel Au Maitre) a further three lengths back in third for Stall Perlen.
Civilon won for Stall Liljetorp, was bred by Ulf Henriksson and collected a first prize of SEK 62,000.
In the two-year-old race, Castro carried on where he left off: Matteusinthejungle (Bungle Inthejungle) won easily by a length from Veronika Jandová-trained Space Memory (Space Blues) – who runs for L.T. Racing, Friday’s winner of the two-year-old race at Klampenborg with Young Eagle – with a full 11 lengths further back to Zamanta (War Front) in third.
Castro has thereby won the last three juvenile maidens at Jägersro in a row – following High Coast Love on 2 August and Jack Dawson on 16 August.
The winner runs for BN Bygg Malmö AB and Jörgen Scherman – the same BN Bygg that won the Class 2 handicap at Klampenborg on Friday evening with Makenzie.
Matteusinthejungle was found and bought by Castro himself at last year’s Goffs Orby Sale Book 2 at Kildare Paddocks, where the trainer secured him in the ring at €14,000.
The bay colt is the seventh winner out of the Hurricane Run mare Undulant Way, herself a winner at three and closely related to the Group 1 winners Single Empire and Court Of Honour.
The Danish win came in the Class 4 handicap over 2,400 metres, where three-year-old Jazoo (Juniper Tree) and Nicolaj Stott scored in dominant fashion by four lengths for trainer Birgitte Nielsen and Stald Snap.
Second came Get Sound AB’s 13-year-old veteran Kengät Jalassa (Helsinki) – extending a fine 24 hours for both the owner and trainer Jonna Larsson, who won the Class 5 final at Klampenborg on Friday evening with Go Get Happy.
In the day’s opening race, Jacob Kvisla rode ten-year-old Xtara (Xtension) to victory by three quarters of a length for trainer Marie Lustig – ahead of Castro-trained Tiberius Tide (Sea The Moon), who runs for Danish owners Jakobsen & Rasmussen I/S.
In the Class 2 handicap – at SEK 114,000 the day’s second-biggest pot – Josefin Landgren partnered the American-bred Morecentsfrom KY (Goldencents), who carried just 53 kilos and held on by three quarters of a length from JWC Bloodstock’s Bushwacker (Supremacy) from Lennart Reuterskiöld Jr’s yard.
The winner is trained by Nina Lindberg Lensvik.
Hans-Inge Larsen also enjoyed a fine day: Nevile Chamberlain (Shalaa) won the Class 5 race in dominant fashion by five lengths under Per-Anders Gråberg for Stall Sött och Salt, and the same owner had earlier seen Spoonful Of Sugar (Exceed And Excel) – also Larsen-trained – finish second in one of the day’s two Class 5 sprints, beaten just a neck by Galileo Grace (Galileo Gold), owned and trained by Oscar Berneklint and ridden by Elin Hedman.
The amateur riders’ race, Wendes Artilleriregementes Cup 3, went to Kate Alvesparr’s Misty Blue (Geniale), whom Nathalie Johnsson rode to an easy win by just over three lengths for trainer Jaana Alvesparr.
