Lamnol scored for Vång and Hedman in the 7 Furlong Challenge

Catharina Vång is both trainer and part-owner of Lamnol, and on Friday evening that combination was worth SEK 75,000 in the 7 Furlong Challenge, a three-year-old contest at Bro Park. With Elin Hedman in the saddle, Lamnol came home in front of Oasis Diamond and Mable.

Lamnol (Oasis Dream) was nicely positioned just behind the leader Oasis Diamond (Oasis Dream) and LS Eloise, while the Voterlöpning winner Papa Joe (Kodi Bear) brought up the rear of the small group under top weight through the turn.

Out of the turn Mable (Elarqam) began to make ground from the back, but Elin Hedman waited another moment before asking him for his effort. The response was immediate, and in a matter of strides Lamnol was by. At the line the margin had been stretched to just under two lengths.

Oasis Diamond held second, a length clear of Mable, after which Papa Joe had to settle for fourth.

The bay gelding is out of the Frankel mare Fabuliste and was bred by Andrew and Diana Parrish. He is owned by Catharina Vång in partnership with Min Galopphäst Sverige AB, and in his previous start the trip was, in Elin Hedman’s view, just a shade too far.

The evening’s three Class 1 handicaps were shared between two trainers, and Niels Petersen took two of them – both with Carlos Lopez in the saddle.

Over 2400 metres on turf, Bling Enterprise’s Optimus Bling (Frankel) came out on top after a hard-fought finish with Patrick Wahl’s Disraeli (Barocci), who was partnered by Jacob Johansen under top weight of 63 kilos.

A head separated the pair, with Ferrari BF (Mo Town) just under three lengths back in third. It was exactly the same finishing order as in the Class 1 handicap the two contested at Bro Park on 22 July, and the five-year-old Optimus Bling has now won twice in a row in Stockholm. Carlos Lopez afterwards pointed to the Stockholm Cup as a possible next target.

The evening’s first Class 1 handicap, over 1600 metres on dirt, went to Fire Rustne Herrer’s Be Curious (U S Navy Flag), who made all and won by four lengths.

Behind him came Madeleine Smith’s Ram Jam (Giant Sandman) – ridden by his trainer – and another of Catharina Vång’s, West Bengal (Oasis Dream). Be Curious won the Voterlöpning last year.

The third Class 1 handicap, over 1400 metres on turf, gave Oscar Berneklint his first training win of the year. Hjelte Restaurang AB’s Rebel’s Gamble (Dark Angel) defied top weight of 62 kilos and held Green Exceed (Exceed And Excel) and I Am Yankee (Freud) at bay by a neck in the hands of Oliver Wilson.

The four-year-old grey was gelded after returning from a demanding winter in Dubai, where Berneklint himself was based alongside his wife, the jockey Rebecca Stålhandske, before the couple moved the yard from Jägersro to Bro Park in March. Rebel’s Gamble was last seen filling second behind Grab The Moment in the same type of contest.

In the two-year-old maiden over 1200 metres on turf, Stall Poulard’s Irish recruit Caledon Boy (Calyx) won by just under two lengths from Great Lou (Calyx), with Merry Ann T (Churchill) third. Ylva Brandt thus saddled both the winner and the third.

Caledon Boy is out of the Lope De Vega mare Edreya and was bred by Kieran McMahon. Oliver Wilson, who deputised here for Jules Mobian, completed a riding double on the night with his success on Rebel’s Gamble, and according to Ylva Brandt the Svealandlöpning is the two-year-old’s next big target.

The evening’s other winners were Warwick Avenue (Hallucinate), King Of Sardinia (Medaglia d’Oro), Golden Grace (Jimmy Mack) and Montauk (Masar).
