Ice And Fire skipped Norsk Kriterium, and instead it was the ITM Amacitalöpning at Bro Park that came next on Sunday. Stald Chasing Dreams’ two-year-old filly did the job every bit as convincingly as on her debut at Øvrevoll, winning the two-year-old fillies’ feature worth SEK 250,000 by two lengths.
Carlos Lopez deliberately let Rayray (Palace Pier) set the pace ahead of Kohira (Kodi Bear) and Aurelia Tail (Juniper Tree), and it was not until early in the straight that Ice And Fire (Oasis Dream) was given her marching orders.
She quickly took over from Rayray and drew clear in a style that promised more to come.
“Ice And Fire has developed a good deal since the winning debut, and today I deliberately waited before sending her to the front. There is plenty of potential in her,” said Carlos Lopez after the race.
Rayray held second place three quarters of a length ahead of Purple Memory (Kodi Bear), while Lulu Tøpholm’s two fillies Kohira and Mist At Dawn (Inns Of Court) came home fourth and fifth.
Kohira, who won her maiden at Klampenborg by five lengths, was a further length behind Purple Memory.
The first prize of SEK 125,000 went to Stald Chasing Dreams, and Ice And Fire has now won both her starts. The debut at Øvrevoll on 13 August was landed by nine lengths over 900 metres.
“Ice And Fire is a really nice filly who looks to have plenty of improvement in her. Today she delivered a fine performance,” said Niels Petersen.
Behind Stald Chasing Dreams stand husband and wife Maria Stetsyk and Jakob Dalhoff, so this is in reality an owner-breeder double, even if the pseudonyms suggest otherwise.
Ice And Fire is the first foal out of the Juniper Tree mare Margrethe, who won the Sceptre Stakes in 2021 for Jakob Dalhoff’s Lokalebasen.dk, and she was born and raised at York Stutteri, where Margrethe now has her permanent home as a broodmare.
That gave York Stutteri two big-race winners on the day, as Grab The Moment won the Breeders’ Trophy Mile just over an hour later.
With Ice And Fire, Grab The Moment and Bruce Almighty, Niels Petersen and Carlos Lopez together accounted for three of the day’s four feature wins at Bro Park – though Lopez was aboard Doc Holliday when Per-Anders Gråberg won the Breeders’ Trophy Classic on Bruce Almighty.
