It was a good Sunday for Danish colours at Bro Park. Mufid (Lope De Vega) won the Herbert Sachs Memorial over 2100 metres by just under two lengths for Lulu Tøpholm’s L.T. Racing, and the first prize was SEK 75,000.
Lorenzo Putzulu rode the five-year-old gelding, who is trained by Annika Delinder at Jägersro. It was Mufid‘s first win of the season, and it had been a while coming: in April he was sixth in the Tuborg Åbningsløb at Klampenborg, in May he had to be withdrawn with a fever, in August he was beaten a neck in the Fred Armstrong Cup at Göteborg, and most recently he was withdrawn at Klampenborg on 5 September because of the going.
He has now won five of his 21 starts. Mufid was bred by Shadwell.
Behind him came Patrick Wahl’s own Ninasimone (Rio De La Plata) with Jacob Johansen, while Julian McLaren-trained Duke Of Hastings (Juniper Tree) was third. Fourth came another Danish-bred runner: Waleed Zawawi’s Trickstar (Magician), bred by Mette and Dean Olsen, with Anna Pilroth in the saddle, and Jan-Erik Neuroth’s Just Jameson (Ghaiyyath) took the last of the prize money.
Lulu Tøpholm had two horses in the money on the day, for in the Lanwades Stud Stakes (L) Søren Jensen-trained Sunday Fudge (Reliable Man) was second.
The day’s other races outside the features began with the Prosecco Sweden Klass II Handicap over 1600 metres, where Alfaares (Awtaad) won by half a length. Marie Twomey trains for John Twomey, the apprentice Elin Hedman rode, and Alfaares too is a Shadwell-bred horse. Henrik Engblom’s three-year-old Mable (Elarqam) was second under Carlos Lopez ahead of Wahl’s Green Exceed (Exceed And Excel).
The day ended with the amateur riders’ race Prix de l’Ark over 2100 metres, which Lenitha Adolfsson won with her own Crack Up Gadelius (Cracksman) and Nathalie Johnsson in the saddle.
Half a length behind came Away Wit Da Fairys (Camacho), ridden and trained by Norway’s Karoline Pedersen, while Nathalie Mortensen’s Goddessoffortune (Appel Au Maitre) was third for Annette Stjernstrand.
And Appel Au Maitre was the name that ran through the whole day.
Stall Perlen’s former Swedish and Norwegian Derby winner was behind eight horses in the money across five races — among them New York Strip in H.M. Drottningens Pris and Schamyl in the Stockholm Cup International.
Among the breeders Rävdansens Stuteri was the biggest with SEK 792,000. The stud had seven of the 15 runners in the Magic Million, including the winner Flamboyant and the runner-up Chariot.
Patrick Wahl was the day’s most successful trainer in prize money with SEK 685,680, and Oliver Wilson topped the jockeys’ list with SEK 746,680 — both on the back of the Magic Million win and a string of placings.
102 horses finished in the eleven races and shared SEK 4,649,500, with a further SEK 266,800 in bonuses.
