Women won six of seven at Jägersro; Zidane best in the Class 2 handicap

It took a two-year-old race before a male jockey got on the board at Wednesday’s Lunch-galop meeting at Jägersro. Female riders won six of the day’s seven contests, and female trainers were behind four of them.

Alina Öhgren opened with a double. She first won the Class 5 race over 1200 metres with Madmor Racing’s Warrior Princess (Evasive), trained by Nathalie Johnsson, who held on by a length from Jack Of Diamonds (Giant Sandman).

One race later she took the Class 3 handicap over the same trip with Crystal Clear (Jimmy Mack), both bred and trained by Annika Sjökvist, by three-quarters of a length from Coachella (Earthlight) — Nathalie Mortensen’s own horse, which she also rode herself.

Zidane (Areion) then won the Y-Cap Class 2 handicap over 1730 metres, the day’s second-richest contest with 114,000 Swedish kronor in the pot.

Engla Tunmar rode the five-year-old gelding for Lennart J:r Reuterskiöld, and by half a length he held off Kajsa Lindsjö’s Chianti (Zarak).

Francisco Castro-trained Civilon (Hallucinate) was third. Zidane runs for A-C Svedberg and Hovängens Horseracing and was bred by WM Racing.

Elin Hedman made it three female winners in a row when she took the Class 4 handicap with Peter Jardby’s Navy Warrior (U S Navy Flag) after a finish in which there was only a neck to Hans-Inge Larsen’s Nevile Chamberlain (Shalaa).

In the two-year-old race Per-Anders Gråberg broke the run.

Elinor Hansson and Rolenca AB’s Inns Of Magic (Inns Of Court) won the maiden over 1600 metres easily by four lengths for Hans-Inge Larsen, adding 45,000 kronor to the account.

Bettina Andersen’s First Lady (Red Cactus) followed in second in the hands of Oliver Wilson, while Rikke Rohbach Bonde’s Magic Momentum (Magician) was third.

The day’s best-paid contest, the three-year-old handicap worth 150,000 kronor, went to Madeleine Smith, who both trains and rode One Hundred – Easy’s Zensation (White Soxs).

She won by a short head from Bettina Andersen’s Missing (Red Cactus), while Modesty (Sea The Moon) was third for J:R Reuterskiöld and Tunmar. Two of the first three home in the race are thus by Red Cactus and born in Bjerringbro.

Nathalie Johnsson closed the day with her second winner as a trainer, and this time she was in the irons herself: Walk By Me (Gale Force Ten) won the amateur race Wendes Artilleriregementes Cup over 2200 metres by a length from Jonna Larsson’s Kengät Jalassa.

Nathalie was thus the only one on the day with a training double.
