The just-completed Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale at Fairyhouse produced eight reported Scandinavian purchases. The biggest was down to Niels Petersen, who together with his agent Edgar Byrne saw the hammer fall at €210,000 for a chestnut colt by No Nay Never.
“A real two-year-old type. He is very smart, the dam won as a two-year-old herself and has since produced two juvenile winners”, Niels Petersen told GalopSport on Thursday morning.
The No Nay Never colt was bought on behalf of Denmark’s Elkær Stutteri, who are also behind Scandinavia’s undisputed two-year-old king of 2026, the Norsk Kriterium and Svealandlöpning winner Romanov (Starspangledbanner).
The yearling’s dam, Emerald Approach (New Approach), is a full sister to the dual Listed winner Tha’ir, and a half-sister to the German Listed winner and Group 3-placed Flashing Colour (Pivotal), and under the third dam are names such as the Prix de l’Opera (Gr.1) runner-up Mona Lisa and the Italian champion two-year-old Croeso Cariad.
Edgar Byrne and Niels Petersen had already bought twice on the opening day.
First lot 24, a bay filly by Hello Youmzain (Kodiac) out of the winning Nathaniel mare Qasida, who was bought for €35,000.
The yearling is the first foal out of Qasida, who is herself a half-sister to two winners and out of an unraced half-sister to the five-time French Listed winner Hooking and the Wielka Warszawska (L) winner Le Destrier.
“She was bought for the group behind Our Bear, who we sadly lost after the accident on Derby day in Norway”, Niels Petersen comments.
Then came lot 207, a grey Gregorian filly who is a full sister to the Premio Nogara (L) winner Greach.
Greach has since become the dam of last year’s Dragon Stakes (L) winner Staya (Havana Grey), who was also second in the Princess Margaret Stakes (Gr.3) and third in the Lowther Stakes (Gr.2).
The filly was bought for €50,000 on behalf of Denmark’s John Kirketerp.
Tattersalls Ireland’s Scandinavian representative, Paul Harley, also had a busy couple of days at Fairyhouse and bought five horses for Scandinavian clients.
Together with Willy Segovia, Harley bought four lots by Cotai Glory (two), Territories and Dragon Symbol respectively, while for Elisabeth Nordland and Ylva Brandt he secured a colt by Kodi Bear.
