The Jan-Erik Neuroth-trained Schamyl proved on Thursday evening that despite a long injury break he is not far from the Scandinavian elite, when on his long-awaited comeback he finished second behind Tobias Hellgren’s Redirect in the Eliteløp over 2460 metres at Øvrevoll.
Schamyl (Appel Au Maitre) looked for a while as though he could go on to win the contest, when after a gruelling battle with Kjell Hroar (Zoffany) he gained a slight advantage.
But on the inside Redirect (Prince Of Lir) appeared under Anna Pilroth, and the 8-year-old gelding caught the other two out with his explosive burst and won by half a length.
Redirect raced with two kilos less on his back than Schamyl and earned NOK 40,950 for the win.
