Jägersro stages one of the autumn’s best days on Sunday: nine races worth 1,557,000 Swedish kronor, and both of the day’s Listed contests have last year’s winner back in the field.
The champion in the Jubileumslöpning
The day’s main event is the Skånska Fältrittklubbens Jubileumslöpning, a Listed race over 2400 metres worth 400,000 kronor. Seven have been declared, and the handicap marks run from 92 down to 83 without the weights evening out the difference.
Espen Hill (Helsinki) won it a year ago by four lengths, was second in 2023 and third in 2022, and Madeleine Smith both trains and rides him.
The 10-year-old gelding has 20 wins and 4.2 million kronor to his name, won the Kapplöpningssällskapets Stora Pris at Bro Park in June and was last seen finishing seventh in the Stockholm Cup International (Gr.3).
From that same race comes Zakopane (Zarak), who was fourth in the Stockholm Cup for Jan-Erik Neuroth and Oliver Wilson. Last year’s Swedish St Leger winner has already won over Sunday’s trip at Jägersro — the Lympos Luca Brasi Cup in July — and has been second in the Oslo Cup. He runs for the Norwegian Stall Perlen.
Galactico Bling (Galileo) arrives with the sharpest sequence: three wins in a row at Øvrevoll, most recently the Norsk St Leger over 2830 metres on 10 September. Niels Petersen trains, Carlos Lopez rides.
Moon String (El Kabeir) won the Class 2 handicap at Jägersro on 13 September by a nose over 2200 metres, runs for L.T. Racing in Annika Delinder’s yard with Lorenzo Putzulu and was seventh in this race last year.
And then there are Rikke Rohbach Bonde’s two. Chappel (Appel Au Maitre) was fourth in the race a year ago and won the Sveland Malmö Vårhandicap over the same 2400 metres in May. Jacob Johansen rides him on Sunday; Nicolaj Stott, who has been aboard for his recent starts, switches to the stable companion.
Sir Diamond (Appel Au Maitre) is the lowest handicapped in the field, but has earned the more of the two — a good million — and comes off two wins at Klampenborg, the latest on 19 September. Both are bred at Stutteri Hjortebo, so two of the seven come from the same Danish stud and the same yard in Denmark.
The youngest runner is the three-year-old Ferrari BF (Mo Town), who gets three kilos from the older horses. He won the three-year-old handicap at Jägersro on 13 September for Fredrik Reuterskiöld, and Per-Anders Gråberg rides.
Mountbatten defends the mile
The day opens at 11.50 with the Peas And Carrots Mile, a second Listed contest over 1600 metres worth 200,000 kronor. There are only four runners, but this is where the day’s highest handicapped horse starts: Lord Mountbatten (Connect) won this race last year, and Niels Petersen has won it three times in all.
The five-year-old horse took the Valley Chapel Memorial at Jägersro in July by 9½ lengths and has 2.3 million kronor to his name. Carlos Lopez rides.
Petersen also saddles Be Curious (U S Navy Flag) with Lorenzo Putzulu. Against them stand Zidane (Areion), who won the Class 2 handicap at Jägersro on 23 September for Lennart J:r Reuterskiöld and Engla Tunmar, and Hawaii Five O (Kameko), whom Annike Bye Hansen saddles for Champagnegaloppen.no with Oliver Wilson — he won the Malmö Sommarhandicap at Jägersro in August and a silver division at Øvrevoll on 16 September. All four carry 59 kilos.
Rosengårdlöpning
The day’s second-biggest purse goes to the three-year-olds over 1200 metres and is worth 225,000 kronor.
Papa Joe (Kodi Bear) heads the field for Francisco Castro and Maikel Narvaez Bravo. He won the Voterlöpning at Jägersro in June — 500,000 kronor — and has four wins from eight starts.
Just behind comes Bushwacker (Supremacy), who won the Hellges Glasmästeri Derby Day Sprint over Sunday’s trip in July and was last seen second in the Class 2 handicap on 29 August.
Lennart J:r Reuterskiöld trains, Gråberg rides — and Reuterskiöld won the Rosengårdlöpning last year with Abby (Appel Au Maitre).
Twilight Hero (Twilight Son) was just second behind Bushwacker in the Derby Day Sprint, a length and a half back, and is trained by Tina Mortensen with Diego Pedroza Prado in the irons. Golden Grace (Jimmy Mack) has won two of her last three for Annika Sjökvist and is now ridden by Oliver Wilson.
The two lowest handicapped both have Danish connections — and they met three weeks ago. Entends (Yafta) won the Fyens 3-års Cup on 12 September by a length from Sir Pablo (Magician).
Entends is trained by Flemming Poulsen and ridden by Jacob Johansen, Sir Pablo runs in Stald Jægerspris’ colours for Rikke Rohbach Bonde with Nicolaj Stott and is still chasing his first win in his eighth start.
Two in the same colours
The Manoustielöpning is for two-year-olds over 1200 metres and is worth 200,000 kronor, and L.T. Racing has two of the five. Persuade Me (Cotai Glory) won a novice race at Jägersro on 13 September by eight lengths for Veronika Jandová, and Jacob Johansen rides again. Kohira (Kodi Bear) won the two-year-old maiden series at Klampenborg in August by 5½ lengths for Patrick Wilson and has Oliver Wilson aboard.
Both met Rayray (Palace Pier) in the ITM Amacitalöpning at Bro Park on 30 August, where Annika Sjökvist’s filly was second, a length and a half from the winning Ice And Fire (Oasis Dream), while Kohira finished fourth.
Rayray has earned the most of the five and is ridden by Alina Öhgren. Francisco Castro’s Jack Dawson (Cotai Glory) won his maiden at Jägersro in August by 4½ lengths and was withdrawn from the Svealandlöpning on 20 September; Otto (Ardad) is chasing his first win in his fourth start.
The rest of the day
The Malmö Hösthandicap (150,000, six runners) and the Stig Holms Pokal for two-year-old fillies (150,000, seven) come early in the day. In the latter we see Inns Of Magic (Inns Of Court) again, who won the two-year-old maiden at Jägersro on 23 September, and Magic Momentum (Magician), who was third in the same race.
The Wendes Artilleriregementes Cup 5 Final (52,000) brings together ten amateur riders, and the day’s biggest field is in the Class 3 handicap (90,000) with eleven — among them Navy Warrior, who won the Class 4 handicap at Jägersro on 23 September, and Bent Olsen’s Geoffrey for Lone og Kaj Nielsens Fond.
The day closes with a maiden for two-year-olds (90,000, eight runners), where L.T. Racing again has two — Space Memory (Space Blues) and Nimble Feet (Footstepsinthesand).
