The Bloomers line is now also being continued in Denmark

On 16 April GalopSport carried the story of the Swedish taproot mare Bloomers, whom 92-year-old Kjell Sjöberg imported to Sweden in 1974. The article aroused interest with breeder Lillian Hestekjær, who has now taken over the ownership of Sjöberg’s broodmare Bloomeretta – but the legendary blood line is also being continued by Morten Nielsen in North Jutland.

Morten Nielsen has acquired the unraced 4-year-old mare Epic Bloom Carlras (Pastorius), who is a full sister to the Derby and Scandinavian Open (Gr.3) winner Master Bloom.

Epic Bloom Carlras’ line traces back to Bloomers through her dam Milibloom (Miesque’s Son), her granddam Yankee Bloom (El Gran Senor) and her third dam Filibloom (Relko). The last of those was born in 1979.

“Epic Bloom Carlras has been covered for the first time this year, and she has just been scanned in foal to Wentworth at York Stutteri”, Morten Nielsen tells GalopSport, and continues:

“I chose Wentworth on the basis of his fine yearlings at the sale last year, and the fact that they sold really well. He is himself by Acclamation and was at his best around 1600 to 1800 metres, and I think that suits Epic Bloom Carlras well”.

Epic Bloom Carlras was bred at Eva Isacsson Sjunnesson’s Solbacka in Sweden and was sold for DKK 350,000 to Stald Ras at the Scandinavian Open Yearling Sale in 2023.

Because of an injury she never made it to the racecourse, but now – like Bloomeretta – she gets the chance to continue the Bloomers line at stud.

And Bloomeretta, whom Lillian Hestekjær has now inherited from Kjell Sjöberg, is being covered by the Adlerflug son Dicaprio at Haras du Taillis in France before travelling on to Denmark.
