After his all-conquering three-year-old season in 2024, Jan-Erik Neuroth’s dual Derby winner Schamyl missed the whole of last season through injury. In just his second start after the long break, the Appel Au Maitre son won Thursday evening’s Oslo Cup (L) ahead of Zakopane and Mount Kilimanjaro.
In the hands of Nicolaj Stott, Schamyl forced his way past his stablemate Zakopane (Zarak) and the hot favourite Mount Kilimanjaro (Siyouni), ultimately winning by three-quarters of a length for a first prize of NOK 250,000.
Behind the first three there was a further gap of 12 lengths to Redirect (Prince Of Lir) and Captain Chorus (Paco Boy) in the final prize-earning positions.
Schamyl was bred at Stutteri Hjortebo as a son of the former Swedish Oaks and Danish Breeders’ Cup winner Whistler (Academy Award), who in turn is out of the former Scandinavian champion mare Wings Of A Dove (Hernando), who likewise had her breeding career at Hjortebo.
This year’s Oslo Cup (L) winner is owned by Stall Petterøe’s Mix and here took his eighth win in 13 career starts, while his total career earnings passed 4.3 million Norwegian kroner.
