Sunday’s best-paid contest at Bro Park, a Klass 1 Handicap over 2,100 metres on dirt, ended in a nerve-racking battle up the straight between Patrick Wahl’s eight-year-old Falkor and Annika Sjökvist’s three years younger Offer And Receive. Falkor managed to stay in front all the way in the hands of Evelina Rönnlund.
The Barocci son Falkor, who began the season on a handicap mark of 88, managed to take his 12th win from 44 starts, and with the first prize of 62,000 Swedish kronor he passed a good way beyond 1.4 million in total prize money.
Falkor is bred by Pernilla Nilsson and is a full brother to the Listed-placed Blue Gem, and a half-brother to the Auktionsløb winner I Can Do It (Hurricane Red) and the big-race-placed Silver Wings (Appel Au Maitre) among others.
Pernilla Nilsson has sold the last five foals out of the dam of Falkor, Lana Jolie (Whipper), to Denmark – among them the aforementioned I Can Do It and Silver Wings, as well as the two-year-old Othello Torkdahl (Moohaajim), who is in training with Lea Olsen in Aarhus.
Patrick Wahl had also opened Sunday at Bro Park with a win with the nine-year-old Gimme Love (Reliable Man), who won for Jose Carlos Lopera, but Annika Sjökvist then also gained her revenge with a double through the three-year-olds Sir Brian (Zaahid) and Crystal Clear (Jimmy Mack).
In addition Oliver Wilson rode the six-year-old Dharwin (Moohaajim) to victory for Caroline Malmborg, and Lorenzo Putzulu provided another win for the in-form Catharina Vång with the five-year-old Ritzy (Mendelssohn).
Finally Julian McLaren ended Sunday with a double, when Duke Of Hastings (Juniper Tree) in the very last stride caught his long-time leading stablemate Brute Force (Gale Force Ten).
Marika Masuhr was in the saddle on the winner, while Malin Holmberg rode the runner-up.
