Niels Petersen and Stall Trick Or Treat had the choice between running in Pokalløb (L) on Derby day at Klampenborg, or in Tuesday’s more ordinary Class 1 Handicap at Bro Park. The decision fell in favour of the latter, and last year’s Danish Derby winner did the job perfectly in the hands of Carlos Lopez.
The four-year-old Go Go Gadget son eventually won by three-quarters of a length ahead of the Oscar Berneklint-trained Rebel’s Gamble (Dark Angel), after which there were a further five lengths back to Alfaares (Awtaad) in third place.
“Grab The Moment has a big assignment at Bro Park later in the year in Breeders’ Trophy Mile, and that is why we chose this kind of prelude, instead of meeting the Scandinavian mile elite at Klampenborg next Saturday”, Niels Petersen tells GalopSport.
Grab The Moment was running for only the second time this year. He made a winning seasonal debut in the Dansk Breeders’ Cup, and has therefore already passed 350,000 Swedish kronor from his two starts in 2026.
The dark bay gelding, who is bred at York Stutteri by Tanja Ravn Myhre, was raised to 89 in the handicap after Tuesday’s victory.
Niels Petersen and Carlos Lopez incidentally also won the day’s second Class 1 Handicap at Bro Park, this time with Bling Enterprise’s Optimus Bling (Frankel), who beat Disraeli (Barocci) and Espen Hill (Helsinki) easily by two lengths.
Tobias Olofsson’s newly crowned Norwegian 2000 Guineas winner, Antonov (Sergei Prokofiev), landed a three-year-old race over 2,400 metres under top weight of 62 kilos with Per-Anders Gråberg, and it should also be noted that Patrick Wahl’s home-bred two-year-old gelding Schakalen (Jimmy Mack) made all on his debut under Alina Öhgren.
