Goffs November Foal Sale to begin on Sunday 14th November

Goffs November Foal Sale will begin on Sunday 14th November this year, one day earlier than its traditional Monday start.  The change to the Foal Sale dates has been made to ease pressure at the end of the week for those clients wishing to travel to sales in the UK the following week.

Goffs November Foals has been topped in the last two years by prices of €1.8 million and €1.1 million, both of which were Europe’s highest prices for their category. Goffs market leading foal sale will take place over five days at Goffs, concluding on Thursday 17th.  It will be followed by the two day November Breeding Stock Sale on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th November.

Flat Foal section introduced to December Sale

Goffs will introduce a flat foal section on 9th December to the end of the highly successful December National Hunt Sale.   This will be a low cost option for middle market commercial foals, and should alleviate some of the pressure on the November Foal Sale.  The entry fee will be less than half that of the November Sale to assist smaller breeders and comes after wide consultation with vendors and the ITBA.

Announcing the foal sale changes, Chief Executive Henry Beeby said:

“These improvements to the Goffs Foal Sale offer have come as a result of consultation with the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders Association.  Goffs endeavours to listen to the needs of vendors and purchasers and adapt our sales programme as best we can to accommodate and provide the best market place at the best time for all levels of the market”.

Derek Iceton, Chairman of the ITBA commented:

“This is a very positive move for Irish Breeders as it deals with two important issues that arose in 2015. A cheaper alternative at the optimum time for the smaller breeder can only help especially as it will also ease the pressure in November somewhat as well as giving people a little more breathing space between Goffs and Newmarket at what is a very busy time for everyone. Both Cathy Grassick, as Chairman of the ITBA Mare Owners Committee, and I have discussed the issues with Goffs since last November. We are grateful that they have taken our members concerns on board and reacted so positively”
