Per-Anders Gråberg rode three winners in a row on his home track Bro Park on Wednesday afternoon. Two of the victories came for Roy Arne Kvisla, among them Novislöpning over 1,600 metres on dirt, where the Swedish Voter and Derby hope Grandpa’s Prince won by more than 20 lengths.
The Oasis Dream son took the lead shortly after the start and with the greatest of ease said goodbye to an otherwise quite strong-looking field consisting of, among others, the maiden winner Miss Astrakan (Geniale) and the Breeders’ Trophy Juvenile winner Karla With A K (Swipe).
Grandpa’s Prince is owned by Rc-Horse HB and was bought for €42,000 at last year’s Tattersalls Ireland Breeze Up Sale, where he was offered with an advance entry for Sweden’s Derby series in 2025.
The bay gelding can therefore go straight for Voterlöpning or the Derby Trial in June, after which Svenskt Derby is of course top of the wish list in the middle of July.
Grandpa’s Prince is out of the three-year-old winner Interchange (Montjeu), who is already the dam of five winners including the Listed-placed Tiburtina (Holy Roman Emperor).
The second dam Key Change (Darshaan) won the Yorkshire Oaks (Gr.1) and the Ballysax Stakes (L), and in addition she was second in the Irish St. Leger (Gr.1) and the Ribblesdale Stakes (Gr.2) as well as third in the Irish Oaks (Gr.1).
There is thus plenty of stamina in the female line.
Per-Anders Gråberg’s two other victories came with Caroline Malmborg’s Gold Streak (Hot Streak) and Roy Arne Kvisla’s Frankie Step (Appel Au Maitre).
The latter is a half-brother to the Listed winner Plantstepsdream (Planteur) and a full brother to other good winners such as Running Rolf, Marieappel and Marie Elle. Four siblings with handicap marks between 80 and 93.
Frankie Step is owned by DalaDala, Food Tours, Linse and Stall MajKen, and he is bred in Sweden by Niklas Knuth. He too is entered in Sweden’s Derby series and in addition in Jockeyklubbens 2000 Guineas, Jockeyklubbens Grand Prix and the Breeders’ series.
